New Forum Theme: Lite!

Well, after lots of hinting on the forums, the lite theme has finally been finished up! It matches our Neowin Lite option for the main page.

With the exception of the logo, the IPS banner ad, and a 1x1pixel spacer image, there are almost no images on the forum pages. For even faster performance, you can turn off avatars, signatures, and user-posted images found as an option under My Controls. Load times should be siginifigantly faster for our 56k users under this new theme.

If you find any quirks with the new theme, be sure to post them in this thread and we'll do our best to track them down!

How to lose the fat and go lite:
My Controls > Skin and Languages > Choose 'Neowin Lite" from the dropdown

Ornis:Added a hotmenu for faster control via keyboard. Press Alt+x !
Ornis: Completed file in transferlist will be opened when item is activated
Unk: No longer remove uploadclients with a unknown file name to be more compatable with Hybrid.
Unk: ShareFileList now uses the queue&upload list to create a bar to show how spread a complete file is in the network.
Unk: Fixed a bug in the wizard.
Unk: Added a Known Client List to the transfer window.
Unk: UploadClients with unknown filename is no longer removed for better compatablity to the Hybrid client.
Unk: SharedFile list now has a bar that is generated from the queue&upload list to show how well spread a file is.
Unk: Fixed a bug that caused eMule to crash if you got disconnect from your ISP.
Ornis:Commenticon should be more uptodate [Moosetea]
Ornis:Fix: saving alltime transferred size for files not limited to 4GB anymore
Ornis:Fixed bug that didnt allowed previews of movies with capital extention
Ornis: Preferences reorganized - new group: Display

Unk: Nondownloading sources are now updated a 10th of the time. (Based on Maella)

Ornis: Doubleclick on a user in the commentlist starts a (Message)Chat to that user
Ornis:Fixed issue with limiting the downloadspeed at runtime and via commandline

well I can't switch back to normal...even after I select the regular skin in "my controls" it doesn't work.....noooooooooo EDIT: well I deleted all my Cookies and it's back to normal...

What about those huge sigs? Maybe you'd put in a feature that disables sigs with the Lite theme on?

Look around in your control panel. You can disable sigs *and* avatars, which I did a long time ago, and I haven't looked back since.... They're *all* so *pointless*..... (Look under "Board Settings" for Do you wish to view members signatures when reading threads? and Do you wish to view members avatars when reading threads?)

Of course in an ideal HTML world, you could make this site [b]2-4 times lighter[/b] by using CSS and dropping the table layout. Nice job overall, though.

Yeah, that's the next goal, but I'm waiting on IPB 1.2. The new theme for 1.2 is supposed to have 90% less tables (although, there are still a few). I'll merge the core changes into this theme at that point, most likely

I have a 1.5mb connection and i still turn off avatars/signatures. I hate all of the big sigs with a lot of color etc, i just want to read the messages. The only thing is so many people say "see my sig" for links etc, but i just skip it

Clever design. I still prefer the 'pretty picture'/non-lite version as I'm not on 56K though.

bleh. I like the -look- of lite but not the over all "liteness." Any change we'll be seeing a lookalike style that doesn't eliminate all the pictures (doubtful, i know)? Perhaps I'm being unclear. I love the graphic design, but miss the little icons and such. I'd like to see some middle ground combining the simple graphics with the functionallity of the "new post," "hot post," etc. icons. I'm probably just being wierd.

Other themes are planned for the future, probably around our new CMS being finished up. This was intended as something to match our main page's Lite option. People like the lite page, so we decided to extend the option to the board

MMMM looks so nice, I'm using the theme for the mainpage too. I always hated the Neowin backgrounds and crap... plus it made the site load slower.. now it runs all fast and stuff. Whee Neowin is now one of my top new sites.

To keep bandwith costs at a minimum everyone should use the lite version! I mean, it's the content of the site that is important, right? the layout of the information is still the same so everything is perfect

The point of skins and themes is to offer the end user a choice. Not everyone likes the same look.
