According to sources close to neowin and Bink, Windows Server 2003 Build 3787 crashed last night - meaning it's now not in escrow. The Windows Server 2003 team have fixed the bug which caused the crash which at the moment is unknown and have declared build 3788 as the new escrow build.

The only difference this makes to the RTM date is that it's almost certain it will be at the 28th of March now due to last nights crash. Otherwise we may have seen it today.

If there are any more problems with build 3788 then this may be a problem for the Official release date which is still set as April 24th. Lets hope Build 3788 is gold ;)

They will as soon as it goes indeed Gold... well, does the reset of the escrow process means we'll have to await for another 15 days or is the 28th still an ETA?

Well this is interesting. "Build 3788 was compiled after 3787 decided that it could hide flaws no longer, and in a puff of smoke, expired more quickly than my $9 car wash tickets. Stories of a bug in 3787 causing it to crash "last night" are unforunantly incorrect, as 3788 was built on the 17th (5.2.3788.0 / srv03_rtm.030317-2234), prior to a last night bug crash. Nevertheless, minor yet unforgiving flaws needed to be addressed and 3788 was born." This was posted on winbeta.

#11, escrow is the final stage of testing, MS release a build which has passed all QA stages and is considered stable and pre-final, in a period of 15 days windows is used for production (real-world) purposes and if no problems occur that build is labelled final goes to RTM
