The good people over at WiNBETA have let us know that earlier reports and rumours that we covered earlier this week are indeed true. Thanks to St. Paul's cathedral in London they have managed to find out through St. Paul's walls that the current build of Windows Server 2003 is indeed 3790. According to WiNBETA screenshots are to be posted shortly to confirm this.

It looks as though Microsoft really wants to debut Windows Server 2003 the best they can, why wouldn't they considering it has been in development for around 3 years. Set backs of this kind can only be good for the product itself, showing Microsoft is really pushing towards quality, stability and security in its Operating Systems. Let's hope these minor set backs to the RTM date again don't effect the Official launch date which is still the 24th of April.

An intruder can exploit this vulnerability to make an unsigned plug-in appear to be certified by Adobe for use in Acrobat Reader:
  • Any user induced to install a malicious plug-in with a forged digital signature into an Acrobat viewer plug_ins directory will have no way to differentiate it from other legitimately certified plug-ins (for example, by using Help->About Adobe Acrobat Plug-ins...in Acrobat Reader 5.1 for Windows).
  • Any Acrobat plug-in designed to only load in certified mode in Adobe Acrobat Reader may execute in an untrustworthy computer environment, leading to other malicious behavior.
  • Any PDF document created to only be loaded in Acrobat Reader certified mode may open in an untrustworthy user environment, leading to other malicious behavior.

I had this thought. Why should microsoft care about people who would download it instead of buy it? Wouldn't their potential customers want to buy it instead (so they arent illicit).

That's pretty true, the same thing ran through my head some time ago. It isn't workstation (well, i'm sure you could use it as so), but for the most part, the people who can really utilize the software are not going to download it.
#9.2 JaggedFlame on 27 Mar 2003 - 18:25
Sure, for the server version. The workstation version, however, gets used by just about anyone, not just businesses who need to stay legit.

I was wondering, when the RTM comes out, do i have to uninstall the old betas or can i just install over?
#11 Breach on 27 Mar 2003 - 11:46
You can install over. Really, really not recommended though...

Upgrade is HIGHLY not recommended for all OS, including Windows 2003 Xp and etc.
#12.1 Jason on 27 Mar 2003 - 14:54
No upgrade from XP to a Server OS.
#12.2 JaggedFlame on 27 Mar 2003 - 18:26
I think he meant that upgrading from anything to 2003 or XP isn't recommended.
#13 dudboi on 28 Mar 2003 - 01:31
but if i uninstall then reinstall will my files be there? or is there no way to uninstall except by formatting?
