Nvidia has become the second company to say it will support AMD's 400MHz frontside bus Athlon XP - even though AMD itself has yet to announce such a chip.

Last week, mobo maker Abit said its motherboards would support AMD's "latest 333MHz FSB CPUs, the Barton 2500+, 2800+, 2900+ and 3000+, as well as the 400MHz FSB Barton 3000+ and 3200+". According to DigiTimes, Nvidia is planning a new chipset for the 400MHz FSB Barton-based Athlon XP, in an interview with Drew Henry, Nvidia's senior director of platform product management.

Henry wouldn't say what the product will be called, or give an specifications. However, he claimed any new product will maintain the company's lead in performance, a position achieved with the nForce 2 chipset, which already supports a 400MHz FSB, said Henry. VIA's KT400A is its chief challenger, but as yet the part doesn't support a 400MHz FSB.

[neoquote=#3.0 by leebobs]Lets see if they can get the drivers right for the nForce2 before they bring out another[/neoquote] the new boards are just going to a be revision update, making the current boards officially support 400fsb processors. however their is going to be a new chipset from them after the release of 400fsb, which includes a new southbrigde, mcp-s which has native support for sata and gig-ethernet. search mcp-s on forums over @ http://www.nforcershq.com p.s. im the moderator MaTrIx there.
