Thanks xStainDx...While PCI-Express 16x is just around the corner to replace the conventional AGP, it appears that the good-old PCI that have been here for more than a decade is still alive. Believe it or not, but PNY Technologies recently announced its Verto GeForce FX 5200 graphics card for PCI slot, a definitely exotic solution nowadays.

The graphics card is equipped with a couple of VGA connectors, S-Video TV-Out and 128MB of DDR SDRAM memory. I especially point out that the graphics card advertised on PNY Technologies’ web-site has 128-bit memory bus and thus should offer quite good performance. Unfortunately, we do not know the memory clocks, but the GPU functions at 250MHz, as I managed to reveal based on the fill-rate specifications.

Along with the good upgrade for an outdated PCI graphics solution for a system without AGP (such as based on i810 or i845GL core-logic), in the nice package you will get a manual and a CD with the GeForce FX drivers, Verto 3D World Desktop software,

it's not exclusive though... ATI has said it will have the 9900 and 10000 as PCI express exclusively.

But if I'm reading this correctly, this FX is for the normal PCI bus, not Express.

yeesh! Why would you EVER want to use PCI with a card like that?

[neoquote=#2.0 by timdorr]yeesh! Why would you EVER want to use PCI with a card like that? [/neoquote] Dual Monitors, NO AGP Slot. If you have no AGP Slot you really have 2 choices Get out of the 1990's and upgrade. or continue to use PCI.

These are on store shelves now, i work at a large US retailer and saw these on Saturday, nice to have a DX9 capable card for PCI at $99. I have many customers and clients who need better video but only DX7 cards were available at the time and ATi's 9100 recently came in for PCI also.

I haven't tried any of the newer PCI video cards, but I hear most games run fine on them. Most games don't require a huge bandwidth on the bus (since a lot of the graphics are processed on the GPU and sent out the cord to your monitor). Its when you get into high quality DV that you need the fast 4x -> 8x AGP. Although I could be completely full of crap.

Yeah, because obviously everyone has an AGP slot and they ca...oh wait. No they don't! Some people still have older motherboards or one with built in video and no AGP slot, so having the option of getting a nice PCI card seems like a good thing to me. I don't see what bothers you so much about it; not like you have to get one too.

[neoquote=#6.1 by Skyfrog]Yeah, because obviously everyone has an AGP slot and they ca...oh wait. No they don't![/neoquote] Exactly, I am a poor college student who can't afford to upgrade my motherboard to get AGP (which I would love to do) so this is a great choice for me. Not everyone has enough money to buy the latest and greatest.
