Hey, if anyone here has an Audigy 2, is it worth getting if I only listen to music and play games with my good HEADPHONES not surround sound speakers? I'm thinking of either getting an SB Live! 5.1 or Audigy 2. Please help

It probably won't make a hell of a lot of difference if you're just using headphones, but there are other advantages: If you ever do get a good speaker system like the MegaWorks 5.1 or 6.1, you'll wish you had the Audigy 2. Also, if you ever want to play DVD-Audio discs on your computer, you'll have to have it. I just bought my first two DVD-Audio discs and they're pretty awesome; CD-Audio is sh*t by comparison. Anyway, it's always better to have more power than you need than to need more power and not have it.

If you have a Live drive on 5.1 it does not work correctly w/ these drivers.

I installed these on my SB Live! (original CT4620) and many of the Creative apps no longer work, such as AudioHQ, soundfonts, etc. However, the improvement in the sound is amazing. I ran the game Mafia and for the first time there is no crackling in the sound. Whoever is in charge at Creative needs to be taken out and horse whipped for not releasing updated drivers for their older cards. I guess they want everyone to run out and buy a new model every time they get the notion to release one. Nevermind they are all basically the same; they should do like nVidia does and release a unified set for all of their cards. Haven't tried the guide from driver heaven yet; looking it up now.

creative decided to stop driver support for Lives and Audigy 1....gotta use hacked drivers from now on

Just installed these drivers over my Audigy 2 version .323. It works, everything works, the version number as per Device manager is now .383. There is a slight improvement of the overhall sound quality, other than that nothing to rave about. Those of us who are constantly upgrading our drivers may find some consolation looking at the newest version in the Device manager. On my other computer which has Audigy 1 and which has been patched with Audigy hacked version, this update ran perfectly after using ctcomp patch from the DriversHeaven site. In conclusion, this driver is functional.

Yup, I installed it, no problems, but it didn't make my computer a theme park or anything either. Must be because its just drivers for a sound card, eh? Other than that, I think the sound is "crisper" when running under Linux. But I think my AWE64Gold sounds crisper too, so what do I know.
