This was actually the second e-mail I recieved from them regarding the issue, the first one landed in my inbox back in January, with them trying to defend their use of the product activation and C-Dilla as well as how it was "not dangerous."

Why do nVidia driver releases get front page while ATI does not (well, they did in the past..)?
#3.1 Kombatant on 15 May 2003 - 23:24
It's a conspiracy I tell you!!

[neoquote=#3.0 by rx--]Why do nVidia driver releases get front page while ATI does not (well, they did in the past..)? [/neoquote] Because nVidia releases leaked drivers every second day And I do see nVidia stuff once in a while here too.

ATI has a different version posted to the official website, they end in "008947c" vs the "008946c" listed above. Ideas what the difference is?
#5.1 daveS on 15 May 2003 - 22:36
i just looked at ati.com and there drivers are 46c
#5.2 ir0nw0lf on 15 May 2003 - 22:41
Sorry bout that, I grabbed the ones listed over at hardocp, they have linked I guess the multi-language version, which does end in "008947c" so I went back and got the non-ml version.

They seem to be on my 8500. I've been trying them out with Mafia and it runs really well now, and everything definately looks better. No glitches like disappearing textures like I had before.
#10.2 Octol on 16 May 2003 - 02:29
So far so good on my 8500.

Did they fix the bug when drivers corrupt NTFS partition if you have Large System Cache enabled?

Here's another reference to a possible fix here: http://www.tweakhound.com/xp/xptweaks/atiproblem.htm

I forgot TO SAY THIS ARE BEST DRIVERS ATI RELASED TO DATE !!! so fast so stable so smooth ... delighted
#13 Skyfrog on 16 May 2003 - 01:27
I had a problem installing the drivers; they kept giving me an installshield error. Only the driver installer did this, the control panel installed with no trouble. When I clicked more information on the error screen it said the problem had to do with a grxp4dll.dll file. I found that this was a driver file for my Gravis Xterminator game pad. When I temporarily renamed the file, and tried installing the drivers again. This time they installed fine with no complaints. Seems to be some sort of conflict with the installer for that particular file and the Gravis drivers. I'm running XP by the way. Anyway as far as the drivers go everything is working great so far.

#14.1 GiB WaKeR on 16 May 2003 - 02:21
lol, I don't believe that is a driver issue...

cool!
#20 Schmoove on 16 May 2003 - 06:45
Great drivers, made Vice City run a little smoother on my 9000 Pro. Though ATi MultiMedia Center is still one big piece of crap software. Stay away from it, there are way better programs around there to handle stuff (WMP to start with).
#21 decarteret on 16 May 2003 - 07:16
Does anybody know which player can utilize DIV FULLSTREAM®? I searched through ATI's site and couldn't find anything useful.
#22 Sickmyduck on 16 May 2003 - 07:20
The Divx player which comes with the Divx codec. There is a setting to "Use accelerated post-processing for support ATI RADEON® hardware".

doesnt fix the Infinite Loop error some of you may be getting (i know I am). Time to take this card back to the pc shop
#23.1 timbo3 on 16 May 2003 - 07:31
I solved my infinite loop problem by disabling fastwrites under SMARTGART. fasr writes is for NVidia cards and is weak. my 3d mark03 went up by 40 when i shut it off (not to mention no crashes) by the way, I have an E7205 based mb (GA-8INXP) and they have a known AGP bug

does it work with ati mobility m6?
#27 Jstphish on 16 May 2003 - 15:40
I had to run the ATi Refresh Rate fix after installing. Just a warning to all who haven't installed it and have the 60Hz refresh rate lock problem.
#28 Sawyer12 on 16 May 2003 - 17:15
Do these drivers work with ATI cards such as the ATI Radeon IGP 320M that come on some laptops ? Its the first ATI card ive ever had. im usually a NVIDIA man myself
(1 reply) #29 aleni on 16 May 2003 - 17:30

GTA ViceCity patch 1.1 http://www.gamershell.com/news_BGTAViceCityBv1.1Patch.shtml fixing graphics corruptions ... so not ATI fault
#31.1 ZombieFly on 17 May 2003 - 07:47
applied the 1.1 patch. still the same with the new catalysts. rewound catalysts to 3.2 and everything fine!? .. oh well, i'll just wait until i'm bored of vc before i put the 3.4's on
#32 Admiral50 on 17 May 2003 - 00:57
ATI employees posting here? Sounds like a jealous Nvidia fan there... I found these new drivers to be slightly smoother and stable on my 8500 All in Wonder and I'm sure they only really were concerned with their newer cards. And the MMC may not be great overall, but I've had Pinnacle and Hauppauge and they don't compare to ATI's TV.
#33 David3k on 17 May 2003 - 09:49
I'm getting probs with all my ogl games and some dx games. ati radeon 9700 pro Dx games are: C&C Generals - Crashes after loading a mission Freelancer - when I exit the display of the desktop is currupted unless I restart UT2k3 - works fine after loading one map, but throws be right back at my desktop when it tries to load the next one. what's up? Back with 3.2 none of this happened. so I tried to uninstall and install the older ones, no change.
