According to sources close to Neowin, Microsoft's MSN department are preparing a "Public Preview" of MSN Messenger 6.0. This preview could be launched as soon as next week.

As we covered before, the preview will contain new emoticons, a My MSN Picture, Logging, Games and better Webcam support for Windows XP. As for the emoticons side of Messenger we've got hold of a few of the new emoticons that are going to be included in MSN Messenger 6.0. Some of them seem pointless, and some are even animated (I recommend you download them) but I'm sure you'll enjoy them nevertheless. Unfortunately we have no new screenshots of MSN Messenger 6.0 itself.

MSN Messenger 6.0 is still due to launch on July 17th as we exclusively revealed.

This was actually the second e-mail I recieved from them regarding the issue, the first one landed in my inbox back in January, with them trying to defend their use of the product activation and C-Dilla as well as how it was "not dangerous."

Note: Neowin cannot verify the source of the email.

Watch out for that Neowin & Neobond stalker dude... I am sure he is gonna report those emoticons to Microsoft..

Won't matter if you download it or not as you won't get it working til someone changes the registry keys etc from the internal IM site authentication to the regular ones like Winbeta used to when it leaked before.

Is it just me or do most of these smilies look like they were modified/drawn in paint?

If you're trying to say they're are fake why don't you say it...

No, I wasn't say that they're fake, I was saying that they dont appear to be as high quality as the current ones.

Look exactly the same to me...

These new emoticons looks crap, in my opinion. I thought Microsoft had some designers and artists in their midsts, or do they choose not to use their talents?
Quote this comment #5.6 Posted by pctuk on 16 May 2003 - 05:30
They look fine to me - same quality as the old icons. I like them.

Is it just me or is MSN Messenger getting more and more bloated with useless features over time? In a few years, it will be as useless and memory-hungry as ICQ
Quote this comment #10.1 Posted by Avenger on 15 May 2003 - 23:21
You want fewer features? Youre going to love Windows Messenger 5 then. Look for it when it goes public.
Quote this comment #10.2 Posted by Smash on 15 May 2003 - 23:59
That's why I'm still using windows messenger 4 . Making Windows Messenger a kind of "lite version" of MSN msg would be a great idea though.

[neoquote=#10.0 by Smash]Is it just me or is MSN Messenger getting more and more bloated with useless features over time? In a few years, it will be as useless and memory-hungry as ICQ [/neoquote] Features? what features? MSN Messenger doesn't have anything. Everything in ICQ was very useful but if a feature wasn't needed, it didn't have to be installed. And it wasn't bloated. MS could definitely use some pointers from the creators of ICQ, they know how to make some damb good software. But I use Windows Messenger 5 anyways, becuz if I'm gonna use a plain Messenger with no feature, it might as well be Windows Messenger and not MSN Messenger.

I'm going to keep using Windows Messenger 4.7. It has/does everthing I need it to do. Windows Messenger 5 is being designed more for corporate users, and not home users. [Lets not get that argument started, ugh.]

What happens if a Windows Messenger 4 or 5 (or MSN Messenger 5), talks to a MSN messenger 6 then? Do Windows messager users still get the standard emoticons if they get sent, say, a sheep icon from a MSN 6 image?

Hmm possibly.... we'll see anyway... maybe MSN 6 won't talk to people that have a different messenger (but I seriously doubt that lol)
