Thanks to ShoeHornOPlenty for the heads up

A new build of MSN 8.5 has been released by Micosoft to it's MSN 8 Explorer testers. There are no major changes. MSN Explorer 8.5 is due to be released to current and new MSN 8 subscribers by the end of this month and MSN Explorer 9 internal testing to begin.

Although MSN Explorer 8.5 will be released soon it will not contain MSN Messenger 6.0. The release is designed as an interim release for bug fixes and small improvements, nevertheless a welcome one. MSN Messenger 6.0 will be intergrated with MSN Explorer 9 later this year. Expect major changes to MSN Explorer 9 with a new UI and changes to MSN Explorer and MSN Messenger allowing them to intergrate fully with Windows Explorer.

We've supplied a Download link for this latest release but please remember this is intended only for MSN 8 subscribers and remember this is a beta product so take care when installing on your PC

Download: Download MSN 8.5 build 17.1202
News source: Neowin's BPN

This is BETA software!, please use caution when installing it on your system

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
"Graphic Corruption Fix"

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*** Users who DO NOT have this corruption NEED NOT apply this patch ***
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Contents:

Zip file "Vicepatch_11.zip" containing:

- ViceCity_Patch_11.exe
- ReadmeNOW.txt (this file)

Installation
--------------

- Unzip file.

- ** OPTIONAL ** make a copy of your original GTA-VC.EXE file (from the directory the you installed Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, for when this issue is fixed with a driver update, and you would like to revert to the original version).

- Start ViceCity_Patch_11.exe.

- After clicking next twice, browse to your installed Grand Theft Auto: Vice City directory (the directory where GTA-VC.EXE resides) and click next.

- The patch will check for the presence of the correct GTA-VC.EXE file. If the patch finds an un-modified GTA-VC.EXE, then this file will be updated to version 1.1, otherwise no patching can occur.

- Click start to begin the update process.

- After patching click exit.

The only file changed by this patch is GTA-VC.EXE which is upgraded to version 1.1

Save game and setting files are carried forward with no issues.

This fix is an UN-SUPPORTED update that corrects polygon corruption that has been noticed on certain video cards and PC combinations.

This is the only change that has been made from your original version of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

*** Users who DO NOT have this corruption NEED NOT apply this patch ***

We'll be keeping you up to date on MSN Explorer 9 with info as soon as we get it and even sneak peeks of MSN Explorer 9 itself soon.

Hey Cream, anymore word on Messenger 6 Public Beta? The UI on it looks pretty cool, really matches the current MSN Explorer look quite nicely. Also, is there anyway to get rid of the bars on top for the title and your options ala media player, how you can just click on the little up down arrow button to get rid of your bars above. Personally I feel it would look a lot cooler that way. Ooo, and any special integration features between MSN 8.5/Messenger 6?
#3.1 creamhackered on 17 May 2003 - 23:40
Well MSN Explorer 8.5 won't be shipped out with MSN Messenger 6.0 as far as I know. MSN Messenger 6.0 interacts the same way with MSN Explorer 8/8.5 as Messenger 5 did/does. There are no new major features in MSN Explorer 8.5 and it's just an update for bug fixes and improvements. However, MSN Explorer 9 will be based on the MSN Messenger 6 UI and they will intergrate together with the Windows Explorer shell so we can expect some nice changes there.

Just to answer your question. There will be no public MSN Messenger 6 Beta test. It's release date is in July as well. Edit: Changed June to July.
According to sources close to Neowin, Microsoft's MSN department are preparing a "Public Preview" of MSN Messenger 6.0. This preview could be launched as soon as next week
I knew I had read it somewhere, lol, so I am guessing its just a preview as opposed to beta test, which would make sense since I havent read anything about any sign ups for it.
MSN Messenger 6.0 is still due to launch on July 17th as we exclusively revealed
Oops, when I read this the first time I skimmed through it seeing June as opposed to July, thats why I was curious. Man gotta stop reading stories online until after I have my first coffee in the mornings

Yes, a public preview, but no public Beta though. Too bad too, that would have great.
#3.6 creamhackered on 17 May 2003 - 23:51
Yes it's due to launch 17th of July and not June. Users of the public preview are basically a mass beta test in any case and are free to leave feedback on the website or email.

Hey cream, do you use this yourself?
#5.1 creamhackered on 18 May 2003 - 00:31
8.5? My family does. I occasionally use it for mail though as it has a great interface.
#5.2 cheekymonkey on 18 May 2003 - 00:41
It does get me that ppl slag it off... I really do like it, especially with the 8.5 bug fixes and improvements. The killer feature for me is the ability to sync mail and calendars quickly and easily across a number of devices. Sure I use Outlook as well but MSN still gets used on a daily basis.

I just wanted to say one thing MSN is no longer called MSN Explorer. It now goes just by MSN and the appropriate number after it. MSN 8, 8.5, or 9.
#7.1 ShoeHornOPlenty on 18 May 2003 - 04:24
I guess its just easier to differenciate between Explorer and Messenger. Saves confusion when people are talking about how they use MSN, are they referring to the Explorer software or Messenger. I agree with you though, I just refer to it as MSN 8.5 and Messenger 5.0 Then again, that could lead to ppl being confused as to if I mean that I use Windows, or MSN Messenger 5.0
#7.2 creamhackered on 18 May 2003 - 07:22
Technically that's not true lol. MSN 8 is the service as a whole and MSN Explorer 8 is the client. Most people just refer to it as MSN 8 but I don't

[neoquote=#9.0 by Silentvoy]How can i use MSN 8.5 without buying services from Microsoft ?[/neoquote] As far as I know you can't as user information is authenticated through their passport system.

I just find it amusing that there is no credit to ieXbeta at all here since it was posted by them about a day before neowin posted it: Thanks Morpheus Phreak for posting this in our forums The new 1712.2 build of MSN 8.5 Beta is out by Micosoft to it's MSN 8 Explorer beta testers. No information about the new features in this release. If anyone sees anything new feel free to add to this topic. A Download link for this latest release is given below but please remember this is intended only for MSN 8 subscribers. Download: MSN 8.5 Beta Build 1712.2 (16.39 Mb) News source: In-house by abidali, 17 May 2003 - 15:34 hmm seems that timestamp is way before neowin's and it wouldnt be the first time someone had lifted news from our site
#11.1 creamhackered on 19 May 2003 - 23:16

well how do you know its from your site that he got the info ? also cream seems to have more info than you got, like MSN 9 and Messenger 6.
#12.1 Morpheus Phreak on 19 May 2003 - 21:24
i know this rather easily We were the first site that had the info and while that news post has no info about Messenger 6 or MSN9 in it is rather simple we stay on topic for our news posts. We dont lump them together. As for who has the inside track on microsoft here I happen to be the guy who leaked the Service Pack 1 Betas last year, I was also the source for most of the ATi driver leaks. I have certain things I keep tabs on. However other than things like this I no longer help the community. Too many whining babies and flamers out there as well as glory hounds seeking credit for the things I do.
