Dear Beta Tester,

We have approved your application for participation in the Windows XP Media Center Edition Update Beta program. As a beta tester for Windows XP Media Center Edition Update, your participation and input is highly valued and necessary in order to make this product great. We have selected you from a large pool of applicants because we feel that you have the best to offer in terms of accomplishing this goal.

You will soon receive a beta PC along with all the necessary components to test Windows XP Media Center Edition. The speakers for the PC will be mailed to you separately. They will be mailed to you directly from your local Microsoft office. Additionally, we will send you a separate email with instructions on how to log on to our BetaPlace web site and to access the beta newsgroup.

Team Windows XP Media Center Edition Update

News source: BetaPlace

When you receive your beta, please review the license agreement included in the setup of the Windows XP Media Center Edition Update. If you agree to the terms of the license agreement, click the Accept button to continue with the setup process and notify us of any complications in the beta newsgroups. We also ask that you complete the Installation Survey on our beta web site once you have completed the installation process. If you do not agree to the terms, please contact mcebeta@microsoft.com within one week of receiving the beta PC to make arrangements to return it to Microsoft.

We know everyone is excited about getting started and we appreciate your enthusiasm. Please remember that this beta is confidential and, as always, we ask that you do not discuss this beta program as per the terms of the beta license agreement outside of the beta newsgroups.

Again, thank you for participating in the beta program. We look forward to working with you!

According to the License Agreement given out by Microsoft, the PC must be given back after the beta program is over.

beta 1 has been with testers for a few months now - new testers are being recruited to complement the existing numbers for beta 2.

and no, you don't get to keep the PC

You can buy it at a reduced rate, if you want to keep it.

I have received the PC from MS but I wasn't @ home. So I will receive the PC in 2 days. Can you say me what Dell PC it is please? Thanks.
#21.1 njlouch on 04 Jun 2003 - 09:12
It's a Dell? Was expecting it to be an HP for some reason. Oh well.

MS say they have shipped mine last week, but no news yet.
#22 hobsgrg on 04 Jun 2003 - 13:26
damn i wanted to get onto this, i guess i didn't make it
#23 njlouch on 05 Jun 2003 - 16:09
Still no freaking news. Damn this sucks. MS keep assuring me they have shipped it, but no card through the door to day "You were out..." and no PC.

I am not whining because I know I was very lucky to be selected. I am just worried about the whereablouts of this PC.
