Dear Microsoft Windows Update Beta Tester,

Welcome to our Windows Update beta program!

You have done a tremendous job for the Microsoft Office beta program. As a result, we are now including you in the Windows Update beta program. We need your help to test upcoming Office System 2003 beta related content that will be delivered via the Windows Update site.

We will be providing support for this beta program through newsgroups and BetaPlace (http://www.betaplace.com). BetaPlace is Microsoft’s technical beta web community where you can:

  • Download the beta released contents – by clicking on the v4beta program link on the Betaplace.com site.
  • Prior to entry of the v4beta site, you will need to set a registry value. Please
  • Go to the Downloads page (on http://www.betaplace.com) or
  • Go to http://content.test.windowsupdate.com and navigate to the Tools page
  • Download a tool application – regupdate*.zip – detailed instructions are located at the bottom of this mail.

  • Report bugs online
  • Continue to report all Office product related issues using the same method you have been using
  • Report all other update content bugs via the Windows Update beta program.
  • The Windows Update Beta program also provides a driver updates bug report (Driver Only Bug) form, which is monitored by the Windows Update Beta and Windows Hardware Quality teams

  • View status of your bugs
  • Receive up-to-date program information and downloads for the Windows Update site
  • Testing Information
  • Known Issues
  • Automatic Update Testing information
  • Driver Testing Information

To access BetaPlace, go to http://www.betaplace.com. Sign-in with your .Net Passport. If this is your first time logging into BetaPlace, you will need to associate your beta id with a .Net Passport account. Be sure to keep this information on hand - you will need it when you log in to BetaPlace, and it must be included in all correspondence with the Microsoft Beta Group regarding your program.

Thank you for participating in this beta program. We look forward to your valuable feedback.

    Windows Update Beta Team

When will MS change Windows Update to be a program like Software Update on Mac OS X it's much easier to use and manage
    #5.1 daveoc64 on 29 May 2003 - 23:41
I would rather have Windows Update Left as it is. MS can change things and the user doesn't have to re-download a program to get new updates. Also It is easier for people to give the Windows Update address when people want to update their PC as opposed to havin to explain where the program is and how to use it. Instead most users are familiar with web pages so they can use Windows Update.
    #5.2 danbalsh on 30 May 2003 - 09:53
You've got a point I guess, but so do I

The good thing with Software update is that it's interated into the OS and does NOT require IE to download updates for your computer

#5 That is so gay they have that. Its spyware scum that everyone should disable right from the start.
    #7 mipra on 29 May 2003 - 17:28
seems a promosing future for me
    #8 primortal on 29 May 2003 - 17:28
the v4beta.windowsupdate.com site isn't up to date on critical updates, so don't rely on it to keep your system patched.
    #9 Voodoo on 29 May 2003 - 17:34
get us all excited then when it checks for updates there arnt none - bumer

looks the same to me....what are they changing on this new version.....just adding Office2k3 stuff to the Windows Udpate?
    #13.1 primortal on 29 May 2003 - 18:04
possibly, I think they are going to merge all their products to use windowsupdate.com for patching/updating their software.
    #13.2 hobsgrg on 29 May 2003 - 18:06
its not exactly the same it has "beta site" written in the top left corner above windows update and to the right of it
    #14 JnCoKiLLa on 29 May 2003 - 18:05
Kewl I'm also in....I guess those bug reports payed off for me
    #15 dougkinzinger on 29 May 2003 - 18:14
yes, they are just incorporating office updates (for now) with the site.
    (1 reply) #16 SLOSifl on 29 May 2003 - 18:14
I've heard they may even allow 3rd party products to register themselves at Windows Update. That would be very handy. But as of now, then intent is to add Office 2003 updates to the WU process. Too bad there aren't any yet.
    #16.1 Jason on 29 May 2003 - 18:42
The reason there are none yet is because its still being made

I am beginning to think MS should be more picky in its testers after reading some of the comments here...

Is this just for 2000 or XP?

That would be cool if Microsoft notified users of 3rd party product updates.

Has anyone noticed under survey in Windows Update 4.0 you can nominate someone for this beta along with being able to nominate yourself. What gets me is the part where you can nominate yourself. Also has anyone downloaded something from WU 4.0 yet?

    QUOTE

Please fill out the following form to nominate yourself or those you feel are good candidates for the Windows Update 4.0 Beta Program.
