A few peeps have contacted us worried over the recent neowin downtime, and thinking that they may be inadvertently a part of it.

As mentioned in the boards there is a fantastic information source for this type of attack over at grc.com, which includes two checks you can perform on your own PC. Please click on Read more for the details.

It does go without saying that if you spend time online - on Neowin ;) - then you really should get hold hold of a decent firewall plus an antivirus program.

Now this really is a personal recommendation but I'd go for Outpost (free version) for the firewall, and Norton 2003 or McAfee for the virus scanner if you have the money, otherwise there are a few online scanners out there.

It just remains for me to say thanks to you all for sticking with us.

I agree with the people that say Steve Gibson is a media attention seeker, controversy, etc. But his article on DDoS is very nicely explained, quite simple and basic, it's not difficult for anyone with no prior knowledge of DoS, unlike those elitist articles elsewhere which explain in a vague manner with no proper clarification on parts. Eventhough he is a big mediaseeker, etc, I would recommend the article to anyone who wants to know more on DDoS, trust me you'll be clear on how DDoS works.
