The bank sent out this information, it said, because the latest Microsoft browser could be required to ensure compatibility with security certificates, which are required to guarantee the authenticity of a secure Web site. "Later this year FirstDirect will be renewing its own security certificate and if you do not upgrade now it could result in some compatibility issues with our online services," said the bank.

Great! Next thing on the list is for Mercedes to be bought out by Microsoft. Soon every 10 minutes the cars will crash on you. And when before airbags would come up, it will say ('user-friendly' service ), "Are you sure?"

LOL!!! I have the EXACTLY thought after I read this passage.

I discourge all company to panrter with M$... that Monopoly son of a bi*** company.

Oh my God nooooo. Using M$ crashy software in such a serious situations is just not the right thing to do. Companies should just say no to that for the sake of our lives.

For those of you who haven't kept up with the news, Microsoft's automotive software doesn't have anything to do with the mechanical operation of cars themselves. It runs navigation systems, and other personal convenience options.

The only way that their software will hurt you is if you're paying too much attention to the software instead of where you're going.

I guess MS bashing never changes.... (yawn!)

This stuff is pretty cool. Me wants one of them SPOTs.

1, 1.1, 1.2 have you recently tried ms's recent OS Windows XP. If your system is halfway stable (hardware wise) then you like me should have yet to experiance one OS related crash.

So now they're adding more distractions for drivers (as if cellphones and TVs weren't enough) and making the car more dependent on prone-to-be-buggy MS software.

Woo! Now I can crash my car's software *and* the car itself at the same time.

Yeah! God forbid we ever get GPS and local weather and traffic information in cars! Who the hell would want that?

Yeah, Microsoft bashing per usual...and none of it is inspired in the least.

The Microsoft Speech.NET boys are working hard on productizing the MiPad technology that was demoed in 2001 at CES for the first time. When this comes to pass, the Windows Automotive team will be able to work with car manufacturers to install array mics throughout the inside of a vehicle. Using an array mic setup will help the software cancel out the ambient driving noise and focus on the voice speaking. Accuracy -should- be quite high and allow people to talk to their Car.NET PC.

With luck, come 2010 it won't be unheard of to be in your car and get an alert that there is a backup on the particular freeway you are on. Merging your car's GPS-placed location with, say, a MSN Direct-style service. In the midwest, people may get alerts saying there is a Tornado Warning in your county and offer the quickest route to your home or work.

There is a lot of potential here guys.

Agreed. The usual MS bashing, how lame.

I especially like the Tornado .Net Alert idea. It'd be perfect, since I live in Kansas.

I now prefer BMW beamers. Benz is now a Chrystler company.

I don't see this as an exclusive..
