Microsoft has doled out another change to its Software Assurance maintenance policy designed to ease the financial burden on those who wish to move from standard editions of Windows and application servers to enterprise servers.
At Gartner's Software Asset Management conference in Redmond, Wash., last week, Microsoft announced a "Step-Up License" promotion that allows licensed customers with Software Assurance or Enterprise Agreements to migrate from standard edition server software to enterprise server software at discount until September 2004.
Cori Hartje, director of marketing for worldwide licensing and pricing at Microsoft, told a packed audience at the conference that the software giant will introduce a new "Step-Up" SKU this July.
According to a brief on the Step-Up Licensing Program provided by Microsoft, the new license price is the difference between the license and Software Assurance price of the enterprise server edition and the standard server edition.

The keyboard is significantly smaller than that of the original Treo. The keys have a dome shape to them intended to make typing with thumbs easier. It has an integrated digital camera and will be able to send pictures via wireless e-mail. It will also play MP3 music files. The only thing we see missing is Bluetooth, and that can easily be added in a later model if the market demands it.
It will run Palm OS 5.2 and will come in versions for both GSM and CDMA wireless phone networks. On the CDMA side, you can expect Sprint PCS to be a major carrier--as it has carried the Treo 300 for some time and has a history with Handspring.
