Straight from Patchou!

Hello! for once, I'm not releasing the new version after the promized date but BEFORE... I know I said friday but wednesday sounds more fun . So here it is, the public beta version of Messenger Plus! 2.20... it is entirely compatible with Messenger 6, it has new features, new fun stuff, and now, the only thing that is missing is your approval. This beta version needs you and your friends to test it in all the environements possible (Windows, Messenger, ...). The more you test, the better it is. I plan to do the final release in ten days from now and I won't make it if you don't help me.

View: Msgplus.net
Download: Download Now! (Free, OPTIONAL sponsor during setup)
Screenshot: Preferences Window
Screenshot: New Personalised Away Dialog (screenshots by Dane Smith)

Please note that the sponsor package has not been updated yet, which means that if you the old one caused you some problems, you must not install the one distributed with this beta (IT'S OPTIONAL, remember). The new sponsor package will be included in future betas and, of course, in the final public version of Messenger Plus!.

What's new? just go in the preferences and check by yourself! new personalised status options (like name tags), logging encryption, custom contact names, ... there's a lot so you won't be disapointed. Note however that features like the Custom Name have not been designed to be perfect, only helpful.

Every feature, old and new, must be tested under Messenger 4, 5 and 6. If you find a bug, please follow this exact procedure:

Indicate your version of Windows

Indicate your version of Messenger

Indicate the exact time when the error occured

Try to write as much details as possible. about the problem. Also, the best thing to do it to provide a way to reproduce the bug. For example: "open a chat, send two emoticons, send a link, ...".

Zip and join the special debug file that can be found at "C:MessengerPlus Dump.txt" (very important)

Send the information by email to mplus@patchou.com . Any bug report that is done properly is guaranteed to be read and considered. If you help to solve a bug, your name will be added in the about box of the program.

Please, DO NOT email any suggestion. Don't worry, I have enough ideas to do another 10 years of updates
Also, please note that the sponsor package has not been updated yet, which means that if you the old one caused you some problems, you must not install the one distributed with this beta. The new sponsor package will be included in future betas and, of course, in the final public version of Messenger Plus!.

If you are a developer and if you are interested in making plugins for Messenger Plus!, this is know possible. The documentation of the Messenger Plus! API can be found at http://www.msgplus.net/plugins.htm. I hope some plugins will be made during the beta period as this is a new feature too that must be tested .

Hope you'll enjoy! I'm now waiting to hear from you... tell me what you think of this new version! (the forum is here for that).

Are there ANY chat logging tools for MSN Messenger version 3.6 (3.60039) this was the FIRST 3.6x series version with contact backup options.

The new versions are taking a huge toll on me system, shakes up my Win2k, even when someone signs in, Maaaaan!

Still the 3.x ones connect MUCH faster, if you're downloading all the time & they Stay connected!

Anyway I couldn't find any tools for v3.6x through Google...I know ya'll love the new eye candy versions, but still... Help!

I wish i could convert these xml logs into patchou style logs
#13.1 slang123 on 03 Jul 2003 - 15:54
Why? xml is far superiour. but if u like is a file on mess.be that changes the log view to plus! style
#13.2 el22 on 03 Jul 2003 - 19:27
The format is superior, but plus' logs are much better and have more features than crappy msn logs

This is great but is there a way to get rid of the tabs on the left hand side?
#15.1 mipra on 03 Jul 2003 - 17:52
tools-options-privacy-dont display my tab.

And for those of you who think that this is an adware, please be aware that you are getting Plus! freely. And, you got the best tools for messenger out there. Patchou (the developer) gives you the option to install the sponsor or not. So, decide for yourself. Just be glad that there is still a person who wants to give you such a great add-on freely.

#18 animoco on 03 Jul 2003 - 18:26
I found a problem with a new feature... The (!WAT) that displays the song playing in Winamp... If you have checked the option "Scroll Song Title in the Windows Taskbar" on Winamp, mgsplus! will show cuted the title of the song.. showing only the actual visible scrolled song title. But isn't a big problem... only uncheck the option on Winamp and fixed

Thank you PATCHOU for your incredible job!

Please post all your bug reports in the Messenger Plus! Official Bug Reports Forum to keep things organized, thank you.

@18: this is a known limitation, if Patchou hasn't seen the report yet, then please try it again, create a copy of the dump file, zip it and email it to mplus@patchou.com

@6: here is the url to Patchou's announcement. http://msgplus.mybboard.com/showthread.php?tid=12108

how come msn plus add links on to my favorites without my permission?
and it also add a extra search bar on my IE 6

it seems like there is a spyware in the software....

#22.1 el22 on 04 Jul 2003 - 02:35
It was with your permission, you just clicked next instead of reading the clear checkbox you chose that said "I AGREE, INSTALL THE SPONSOR" instead of "CONTINUE INSTALLING PLUS W/O SPONSOR".
#23 EvilSeph on 04 Jul 2003 - 01:04
that was WITH your permission, you ticked the, I agree, install the sponsor, tickbox.
(1 reply) #24 Geo on 04 Jul 2003 - 04:25
This v2 series saddens me, im sticking to 1.4
#24.1 el22 on 04 Jul 2003 - 19:12
Did you ever try the new versions? They include 183741040709% more features than v1 series!

And if it's bcoz of the sponsor, just choose NOT TO INSTALL IT. It's easy!
#25 Zeni on 04 Jul 2003 - 08:08
"Wah wah, this free application that is very helpful install spyware with my permission that I wasn't aware I had given it........ I hate you Patchou!"

Please note; You are stupid.

That is all.

Only me having disk I/O going through the roof after installing Plus! ? dbl-clicking on a name in the list- it takes 'bout five sec to open the dialog-window. ok transparancy is on - but hey.....
#27.1 el22 on 04 Jul 2003 - 19:18
Heh, that's not Msgplus' fault... disable transparency if your cpu can't handle it fast enough

Version 2.20.45 - July 5th
Again, several important bugs have been fixed and some stuff has been improved. For example, you won't see spaces in your name anymore when you use colors. Also, problems with complex languages such as Chinese and Korean are gone and "pure virtual function call" crashes should be completely fixed. When you send me bugs, remember that Messenger 6 itself is in beta stage, so some stuff have to be fixed by Microsot, not me .

Download the latest version at http://download.msgplus.net/cached/PlusBeta2045.exe
The previous links won't work anymore so update your pages! .
#29 mipra on 05 Jul 2003 - 23:43
man..that's what I call updates......patchou updates the PLUS! several times
#30 EvilSeph on 06 Jul 2003 - 04:21
I would call it somewhat daily.

He is forever messaging me and the other testers, trying to fix the reported bugs asking us to do certain things so that he can stop the bug from occuring in the next version

He is one of the few developers that actually listen to his users.
#31 Icefingers on 06 Jul 2003 - 18:53

All Mirrors are Updated for Version 2.20.46. A New version seems to be released almost daily, showing us that Patchou is making progress.
