- I wonder how many people are still running the orignal Beta version of MSN 6.0
-
#4.1 Posted by Nickbee on 10 Jul 2003 - 21:37
- not many, as M$ discontinued allowing ppl using the old version access to the server. HTH
-
#4.2 Posted by Kieran on 10 Jul 2003 - 22:11
- Well how come mine is connected here then? I have the new version on my laptop next to me along with the setup file but I cant be bothered installing it on this as I am formatting this machine in the next two days and the beta version is still working for me!

#5.2 Posted by ArcAngel on 10 Jul 2003 - 20:40

- Build 6.0.0503 Here, just downloaeded and installed
-
#5.5 Posted by creamhackered on 10 Jul 2003 - 20:59
- Someone needs to clear their cache then

-
#5.6 Posted by ArcAngel on 10 Jul 2003 - 21:11
- Still no go. Anyway i've never dl the NT & 9X versions before, so they should have been 6.0.0503 from the start.
-
#5.8 Posted by ArcAngel on 10 Jul 2003 - 21:51
- Dont use proxy. If it really is out there why dont someone ad me to there MSN (arc.angel@ntlworld.com) and send me the file.
-
#5.9 Posted by rseiler on 10 Jul 2003 - 21:58
- Why not do the obvious and look inside the installer package? Dates should read 7/7/2003. If they do, then you know that the problem is you.
-
#5.10 Posted by ArcAngel on 10 Jul 2003 - 22:02
- I did, the date is from last month sometime. Would be nice and easier if someone just sent it to me.
-
#5.12 Posted by rseiler on 10 Jul 2003 - 22:20
- Old dates shows that you're not actually downloading the new file. Try using a different browser or a download manager, since cleaning the cache apparently didn't work. It's a big file and can't be sent to most email accounts. Plus, wouldn't you rather figure out what's going on with your downloads? To me that would be way more important than getting a rather meaningless update.

- Please stop trying to fool people. I just went to the official Messenger site and there is NO version 6 released yet. You are downloading a Beta preview version from God knows where.

- Launch Site seems to load faster, and that's about it. At least what I noticed.
-
#14 Posted by DjmUK on 10 Jul 2003 - 22:30
- New version number (235 builds in between
), means to me a lot of bug/security fixes.
I haven't had any problems with it.
P.S.
Has anyone else noticed the digital signatures tabs. 268 & 503 (unknown about other version). But go to the file properties of the setup file and there are new tabs...I've never seen those before.
-
#15 Posted by DjmUK on 10 Jul 2003 - 22:32
- No wait, it's on several of my install files...maybe it was included with the last Windows Update - oh well
-
#16 Posted by session™ on 10 Jul 2003 - 22:54

-
#17.1 Posted by Morpheus Phreak on 11 Jul 2003 - 01:09
- if you have winrar installed right click on the setupdl.exe file and extract it to a folder then use the .msi file in there for setup

oops that was meant to be a reply to 16

- Guys I have q question...MSN Messenger 5 is BETA right? and the sixth version is BETA right? And why when I installed MSN Messenger 5 it won't replace my Windows Messenger? I tried to uninstall Windows Messenger but my Outlook XP starts it!!!!
So I am using Windows Messenger (the latest version). It does the job, well but I want to use MSN Messenger!!! Any ideas? -
#27.1 Posted by Jeffrey on 11 Jul 2003 - 09:24
- Not really. You should uncheck the chechkbox under the Outlook miscennalous (yes my spelling sucks) options.
Then rename the entire c:program filesmessenger folder. To something else. -
#27.2 Posted by Morpheus Phreak on 11 Jul 2003 - 09:33
- Its not supposed to replace Windows Messenger at all
Its a seperate application
If you want to use MSN Messenger install it
Then in Windows Messenger uncheck Allow This Application To Run In Background in the options menu.
Then MSN Messenger will handle all functions for you
-
#27.3 Posted by Morpheus Phreak on 11 Jul 2003 - 09:35
- I really do not recommend renaming the messenger folder as that can cause system stability issues
Anyone with a computer should really know that
-
#27.4 Posted by TopMan on 11 Jul 2003 - 10:50
- Thanks I am going to install MSN Messenger right now. And yes Morpheus I do not recommend such thing either!
-
#27.5 Posted by Nodiaque on 11 Jul 2003 - 21:02
- Better way, uninstall windows messenger from add/remove program in windows component (you might have to unhide it). It clear the registry of windows messenger but if I remember, it doesn't erase it (files) or it erase it but you still can run it (stupid backup files). But after, install msn messenger and it will overide windows messenger (not overwrite)

A new and improved version of Microsoft's popular instant messaging client has been released today. It seems the official release marked for a weeks time has either been put forward to now or this build has been released by mistake.
MSN 9 is due to start beta testing in as little as a months time. And it's rumoured MSN 9 will contain MSN Messenger 6.1 which could have functions such as more launch site activities (new games, photo sharing, updated & integrated version of Three Degrees) locked only to MSN 9 subscribers with the new premium and plus services being created.
This version is still compatible with Messenger Plus! and an ad-patcher will follow for those who don't use Messenger Plus!.
Either way it's a new build and will likely be close to or the build that is released officially within the week. Enjoy.
