It appears as though Apple has removed all of the "Switch" commercials from its Web site, as several readers have pointed out. When trying to view the ads, which used to be available here, you are redirected to Apple's "Switching to Mac: Real Stories" page. In April, Apple removed the "Switch" tab graphic from the top of its Web site navigation to make room for the "Music" tab, although all of the content remained at apple.com/switch. A handful of media outlets have recently claimed that the campaign was a failure, citing stagnant Apple market share numbers.

...Probably because somebody found out that the "switchers" were just really actors who hate Macs with a passion.

PEOPLE HATE MACS!!! Blasphemy!!! LOL, I mean what a shock!
#2 blackice912 on 25 Jul 2003 - 07:01
Failure? Nah, it created so many spoofs.
#3 macrosslover on 25 Jul 2003 - 07:09
oh well, where's there ever any doubt?? anyway, i don't see their new Desktops chaging this either, it will just keep the people with Macs on the Mac side, on the other hand, the faster they can get their notebooks and i mean ALL of them up to some faster specs and better chips, the more money they will make. IMO Apple notebooks are the only thing from them worth buying and that are actually halfway price competitive.

quicktime can kiss my ... I think it's high time those mac guys realised that a second mouse button is actually useful
#5.1 boo_star on 25 Jul 2003 - 07:39
Aren't us PC users on 3 now?

Left, Right and Middle (scroll) which can click.

Rather not use a one button mac kplzTHX :p
#5.2 kidd0 on 25 Jul 2003 - 07:56
Control + Click does the same the second mouse button does, geesh.
#5.3 Jon on 25 Jul 2003 - 08:26
Yes but it involves using TWO hands, if you're aiming for speed an efficiency, how on earth can using two hands to do what one could do be faster or better?

Its retarded, and IMO (and that of the majority) any one who has the stupidity to defend it is a few sandwiches short of a picnic...
#5.4 macrosslover on 25 Jul 2003 - 08:32
doesn't seem innovative to me lol

Hell, 3 buttons are obsolete now. My mice are IntelliMouse Explorers, which have 5 buttons: Left, Middle (Wheel), Right plus two thumb buttons on the side for Forward and Back (Explorer and browser). Comes in Wired, Regular Wireless, and Bluetooth (the one I'm using now). Once you've used that back button, you can never go back (pun intended ) to a 2- or 3-button mouse.
#5.6 bogd on 25 Jul 2003 - 11:21
My mouse for my Mac has 5 buttons, what's your point?
#5.7 Prelude76 on 25 Jul 2003 - 12:32
if Ctrl-Click is same as right click, what do you do to actualy CTRL-click?
#5.8 hush66 on 25 Jul 2003 - 12:35
For those not in the know, Macs have mice that have 2 buttons, just like the one used in PC. Right-clicking on the mouse works the same as PC.

That is the most retarded line I've ever heard. It's a PREFERENCE stupid. Not all people like having a too many buttons on their mice.
#5.10 Jon on 26 Jul 2003 - 12:58
Defending it as a more efficient way of working is going beyond simple personal preference I'm afraid 'tard.
#5.11 nookadum on 27 Jul 2003 - 16:49
You apparently don't consider personal preference OVER set standards. Not all people can work with those standards. Besides, there's not much I can do with the right-mouse button on my PC. Most people work with a keyboard.

I think Apple is preparing something New .. Steve wont sit Quitely. He is the master or marketing and promotion

#7 Keldyn on 25 Jul 2003 - 07:39
Oh thank god. They really rode that campaign into the ground.

it's about time.

I personally prefer macs over pcs (i use both), and i think that the switch campaign was stupid, it made apple look bad and was a nice way of annoying microsoft who apple still depend on for office.
#9.1 code_monkey™ on 25 Jul 2003 - 09:56
yah, i know. it made macs look like they were for n00bs

Can't even post something about Apple without the donkies coming in here to bash...

Look, some people like Mac OS X, some people prefer XP. It's a personal choice. An OS isn't everything you know, some people only need a computer to go online, not play games and other things that PC has an advantage over. And macs are nice computers and people are willing to pay the price for them. If you don't like it then get out, no one wants to hear your bashing.
#10.1 Jon on 25 Jul 2003 - 10:59
Its called having an opinion. Just because its an opinion that you dont agree with, it doesnt make it 'bashing'.

People like you get me mad.

um, when the morons get on cursing and saying, "Apple sucks," it's bashing. It's not really an opinion because there are no reasons to back up their claim, and their soul purpose is to flam the Mac.
#10.3 Jon on 25 Jul 2003 - 11:24
Yes and there is ONE instance of that in this thread.

Do you go crying to mommy when someone says something nasty about your mac?
Remember the old moto, *dont feed the trolls*. Nagging about 'bashing' is just going to make it worse.... and make you look pathetic.
#10.4 nookadum on 25 Jul 2003 - 16:53
Yeah, but you don't go on a Macintosh thread/newspost and say 'Mac sucks'. That makes you more stupid.
#10.5 Jon on 26 Jul 2003 - 12:59
WTF is your problem?
You've got a serious bug up your ass havn't you.
#10.6 nookadum on 27 Jul 2003 - 16:48
No, I think it's you who has the bug up his ass.
#11 Bryan000 on 25 Jul 2003 - 11:20
I really liked their ad campaign. Beats the hell out of all the TIRED gieko (sp?) commercials and those very very annoying Arby's glove/mit whatever-the-**** he is ads. ARGH!!!!!
#12 bogd on 25 Jul 2003 - 11:24
I bought a Mac because of the Switch commercials. Well, it sparked the idea, so I did the research, and I made the purchase. So the switch ads didn't fail in my eyes.
#13 Ironman273 on 25 Jul 2003 - 12:17
I wouldn't have minded the Switch commercials if it hadn't been based on seminating half-truths. The people were either complete idiots that shouldn't have computers, Macs or otherwise, or just outright lying. "The Mac never crashes". Sorry, but untrue. And the stoned chick saying her paper just vanished. Ummm... right.
#14 netstarman on 25 Jul 2003 - 12:33
Im just happy with my good ol' 486 computer it might be old but its great , can't wait to run doom 3 and half life 2 on it ........ wait a minute i cant ...im a sad case

Macintosh blows now - they are using UNIX which is hard and confusing for n00bies to learn...so their switch campaign was just marketing fluff. Mac OS 9 and previous versions were easy to learn, but X is unix based and IS unix with a GUI strapped onto it that looks like the MacOS.
#16.1 Wickedkitten on 25 Jul 2003 - 16:05
you do realise that you could use os x for 10 years straight without ever touching a unix command. Actually theres really no point in pointing out the inconsistancies of that post cos people like you would rather believe your own misconceptions than actual fact.
#16.2 JaggedFlame on 25 Jul 2003 - 16:27
Right, Mr. Black. Everything based on Unix has to use the command line, has to have a crappy GUI, and has to be hard to use?

Granted Linux has pretty much failed at this, but it doesn't mean Mac OS X has.

It's not that actual machine that causes the dislike, it's the hardcore Mac users, who refuse to realize that there are some things that a PC definitely does a lot better. Mac users who tell me to use 10 different applications from different companies, as opposed to me just using Office XP and some VBA coding, gets a little irritating around the office.

When 3 Mac users all argue with me, trying to make me use 3rd party apps with well over 40hours of work, to do what some coding and excel can get me done in a day just makes me want to prove them all wrong and never use a mac for anything. (sucess on this project =) ) And even after stages in the project are completed, they still tell me of how great *** is, even though I would have to do all of my loops by hand. Please tell me this is not typical of mac users?!?!?

I would love to be able to sit down at one of the Macs in the lab (because all of the PC's are used j/k), but the stigma of using a mac and being an unapproachable compusnob or drooling idiot scare me away.
