Nero 6.0 Ultra Edition is the most comprehensive, versatile CD- and DVD-mastering and packet-writing suite on the market today. In fact, calling it a disc-authoring app is a disservice, because the suite also offers a very capable backup program, a DVD-authoring app that compares favorably with all but its pro-level competitors, and even a VCD/DVD movie playback program that includes support for MPEG-4 (the compression scheme that gives you near-DVD quality on a CD). Toss in a slick, completely configurable launch applet, numerous helpful utilities, and a responsive bug-fix policy, and you get a hands-down Editors' Choice. In fact, Nero 6.0 Ultra Edition would have been a landslide winner if it were not for a few minor bugs in our prerelease version and some quibbles with the interface in some apps. Still, if you've been thinking about Easy CD Creator, think Nero instead.

I'm sticking with 5.5. I don't need the bloat.
Quote this comment #2.1 Posted by deadmonkey on 26 Jul 2003 - 08:45
Same! I downloaded it last night (all 3 parts) and installed it, had a play and then uninstalled it all 10 minutes later. Nero Burning ROM didn't look all that different and I couldn't see any major new features for CD-R/W burning so 5.5 it is for me. I don't want video editing software, etc. wit my CD master software!

cool.. downloading the english only version its 7mb
Quote this comment #4.1 Posted by Hawkeye on 26 Jul 2003 - 00:17
It's not the English-only version. Extract it with WinRAR if you don't believe me. That downloadable file simply conatains all the help files that aren't installed by Nero by default. In other words, all help files are included in this package, not in the Nero standalone package.

I don't think its bloated at all,i L0000ve the new interface, and the fact that in earlier versions, the burning dialog showed it self on the desktop, not in the nero itself...i l00ve that they have fixed that

grr...but they still have'nt put in a "time left" counter....irritating!

I tried installing it, Entered the serial I had, Boom. Up comes nero EXPRESS. I HATE NERO EXPRESS. Is there any way to tell nero to use the FULL interface, and NOT the Express interface? It takes me 2-3 times as long to make NeroExpress work as regular Nero Burning Rom.

Nero 6........when good software goes bad (bloated)
It's a shame that with each revision of a good piece of software, they tack on everything including the kitchen sink, causing it to become bloatware.
I use to be a fan of Nero until version 5, then I switched to Disk Juggler.
works as well, no bloat.

(3 replies) Quote this comment Reply to this comment #18 Posted by Drimacus on 26 Jul 2003 - 03:24
i dunno why u ppl keep calling it bloat, it's just as fast as version 5, with new more colorful icons
Quote this comment #18.1 Posted by JMA_PN on 26 Jul 2003 - 03:44
The CD Installation is bloated... The Web Installer have just two more program StartSmart (just disable it during the installation) and Nero Sound Track (CD Ripping, the program look to be good).

For now I haven't seen anything bloated (my k6-2 know how to tell me when it's bloated... "cought" kazaa....). Yes the new icon worth the upgrade.
Quote this comment #18.2 Posted by Keldyn on 26 Jul 2003 - 03:53
because they base their opinions on the size of the download only.LOL

Idiots. Nero6 is great. It's quick, feature packed and with little footprint. Those of you calling it bloatware need to get a clue. Btw the new UI rocks.

Just not into having to have have all the "new" "latest" "greatest" stuff anymore. Stuff changes so often it's rediculous. My Nero 5.5 does everything I need. The bloat might be coming from all the new stuff everybody is getting that is bloating their computer?

Has anyone had a problem erasing CDRW disks, either using quick erase or full erase?

Nero 6.0 burns my CD's no problems but hangs when I go to erase a CDRW disk.Removed version 6.0,reinstalled the last version 5x update from last month and all is well again

Think I may hold off now until the bugs are fixed

it seams that they have removed the option to burn 352 x 576 DVD Movies... the old Nero Vision Express let me burn those mpg2s to a DVD but the new one wants to reencode them to a higher resolution.
guess, i have to go back to the old one

I have it installed on two computers and both haven't had a problem in months with it so it is stable for me. I usually have uptimes of a few weeks before I need to reboot for some software install.

The disc spanning feature is pretty useful.

PS: I still love Nero but it needs to add drag to disc and disc spanning.
Quote this comment #34.3 Posted by JaggedFlame on 26 Jul 2003 - 17:48

It has Drag-to-Disc. You just have to install InCD 4.0.

InCD only works with rewritables though, drag to disc works with regular cd-r's which is useful when backing certain data or just making a copy of files for a friend.
Quote this comment #34.6 Posted by JaggedFlame on 28 Jul 2003 - 00:27
Yeah, you're right.

I barely use that functionality anyway. I usually just take CD-Rs (which are cheap by the assload now) and write to them with multisession. If anything, it avoids the pain of having to install UDF readers and such.

BTW, anyone having issues with the download links can log into the FTP server directly to download the demo. ftp://ftp.us.nero.com

It's slow, and you may not connect on the first try, but at least it's an alternative to the download links on the web site.

If you really want it for free, download the demo, then start nero express, then enter the serial number you got off Kazaa, emuel etc.

nero 6 is fine anyways i dun consider it a bloat but it still slower than nero 5.5 got more useless features something that i hate from easy cd creator 6 but anyways in my opinnion anyone here got newer pcs so why are people complaining about bloat . Any software nowdays get bloated just check msn messenger, winamp 3, ICQ, netscape and many others. if u want the things lite stick with the old one thats it

by the way he only thing that i hate is the "package" stuff make it in package its ok but then why not make a full version of it in a single install so i dun have to dl 3 pr 4 package to receive a "COMPLETE" nero suite that would be nice for dsl user or any others that dont want do dl many things

Quote this comment Reply to this comment #47 Posted by ezgr on 27 Jul 2003 - 14:17
There's something wrong with mine. I reinstalled but have the same problem. In Nero when making a VCD it don't play wma avi files or mpg mpeg .. only some mpeg files, even that the ones i'm trying to play are already enconded for VCD. The small window appears but nothing is shown. Also whenever I use menu with thumbnails I can just add WMA files to the compilation if I use an MPEG Nero quits withut any error message. It has to do somthing with the thumbnails creation, it only happens when I enable the menu or add a non-WMA file to a compilation with menu enabled. Also it does the same if you go to the properties of the video and the menu tab where you can change the part of the video that will be used for the thumbnail. In Nero Visionwith just addind a video it shuts down. I dunno what else to do, my Nero 5.5 worked fine...

32mb for a complete install is bloatware? wtf you people don't know what bloatware is. Nero 6 runs just as fast as nero 5.5 but it looks a hell of a lot smoother. I would consider bloatware to be a software package that runs slow and sh**. EZCDC would be considered bloatware. Also i don't think the size of the install would really make a big diff. unless you are still sporting a 10gb hd from the 90's **** who doesn't have less than 500gb of hd space....
