Thanks xStainDx...Microsoft have just released an update of its P2P connection software 3° for MSN Messenger with the build number 1.0.0352.0. The first official beta release, carrying the build number 1.0.0336.0, wasn't updated for months. Now, finally an update is out which is a sign that this project has not been discarded by Microsoft. The tool is still intended to be used with MSN Messenger 5.0, allthough we've tested it with MSN Messenger 6 and functions well with no noticable problems. There is no word on changes, fixes or improvements yet.

3° is software that connects a small group of family and close friends, people who know and trust one another, so they can do fun things together in a whole new way. 3° is a beta test of an innovative application that lets users connect online, extending real-world social interactions.

With the launch of Visual Studio .NET 2002 and the .NET Framework 1.0, Microsoft introduced a unified programming model, new and enhanced programming languages, and its most integrated and powerful developer toolset ever. One year later, Visual Studio .NET 2003 and version 1.1 of the .NET Framework build on the strength of the initial release and deliver unprecedented integration with the Windows Server 2003 operating system. Moving forward, Microsoft will continue this trend of integrating managed code support in major product releases – first with SQL Server Yukon and later in the Windows Longhorn operating system.
Over the course of this product roadmap, Microsoft plans a steady stream of innovation in both tools and framework, offering the businesses of today and tomorrow premier tools with which to meet their evolving business needs. Microsoft will continue its commitment to delivering productive tools that help customers take maximum advantage of the underlying platform and achieve success while building a wide range of software solutions.

Oh please......like MS cares what you personally are doing on your PC. Paranoia freaks. Could you imagine the legal hype the media would have if MS was spying on you? They'd be crazy to even think about the idea. Go live in your conspiracy filled world.

I was hoping that they had stopped development of this as it is awful! Easily the worst thing to come from Microsoft since Windows ME
#4.1 Knight' on 26 Jul 2003 - 18:08
At least the crap is free?
#4.2 LonghornXP2006 on 26 Jul 2003 - 18:20
Kazza is free
#4.3 Sawyer12 on 26 Jul 2003 - 18:23
yeah kazza is crap
#4.4 Sierra on 26 Jul 2003 - 18:25
No, Kazaa rules! All p2ps rules. Even eDonkey... If you know what IPs to block you get good download speed with all of them
#5 LonghornXP2006 on 26 Jul 2003 - 18:08
this program is crap.
#6 Sierra on 26 Jul 2003 - 18:18
it rules!!
(1 reply) #7 Sawyer12 on 26 Jul 2003 - 18:22
what does it exactly do ?
#7.1 Ben_Chep on 26 Jul 2003 - 18:39
Does it work kinda like ICQ for transfer files, transferring files using messenger is usually pretty awful. So i assume that this program is supposed to improve this

This may suck to you because it wasn't intended for you. It's targeted at teens. It takes IM one step further and lets them share and listen to music with each other.

So although you might not want it, and I probably wouldn't use it, but there's definitely a target audience that would find this fun & useful. It's a great procrastination tool for kids who don't want to do their math or history homework. I also think it's a pretty cool use of P2P technology.

its CRAP i have had it before
#11.1 Krankerz on 27 Jul 2003 - 06:07
yeah...when it was alpha...learn not to judge software in it's deeply early stages, and people might take you seriously next time

for me, i think the program is cool, especially in its alpha form. being able to host radio stations with your MP3s and have your friends listen to them and have fullscreen animated smiley's...it was new and innovative...good job MS
#12 Webgraph on 26 Jul 2003 - 22:57
This is BS! Microsoft creating P2P software? They are amongst the most prominent companies in the fight against online piracy!
#13 deadpencil on 27 Jul 2003 - 00:33
So whats it do? Stream MP3's over the net?.....at what bitrate and using which codec?

This could have potential but only for those with very fast connections if it's gonna work the way I think it will.

#15 skygum on 27 Jul 2003 - 05:21
It requires MSN messenger 5.0 only.. -ㅁ-

oh geez, it's not that bad, not bad at all, infact I quite like it apart from the ipv6 rubbish.

I've actually been looking for something like this...the file transfering in normal MSN messenger doesnt work with my schools firewall settings (I swear to fking god they installed the goddamn firewall backwards...I dunno how the hell they did it but they did) and some friends and I had been talking about setting up our own VPN somehow. This sounds liek it'd do it.

List of problems though:
A: Its made by microsoft so its not going to work till the 5th installment
B: I'm not even going to ask if it works with Mac versions of Messenger
C: Betas have a NASTY habit of not agreeing with my computer
#17.1 nathanintu on 27 Jul 2003 - 13:33
List of problems though:

A: you don't like microsoft coz there the only PC company that do things better then other comapanys can.
#17.2 Gary_Player on 27 Jul 2003 - 22:30
List of answers:
A I love microsoft, but its a well known fact that Microsoft programs dont work until v4 or 5 eg windows, IE, messenger
#17.3 JaggedFlame on 28 Jul 2003 - 00:22
Windows worked well at version 3. Visual Studio .NET worked well as soon as it came out. MSN Messenger 1.0 was great. What the hell do you mean, it's a well known fact?
#17.4 NinjaOfLove on 28 Jul 2003 - 05:28
Most "well known facts" people spew concerning Microsoft and it's products are just bs inflammatory rhetoric they heard somewhere.

Well it would nice if I could get ipv6 to work with my router.
#18.1 trippparks on 27 Jul 2003 - 20:40
You should be able to, the teredo technology included in the latest Advanced Networking pack should be compatable with even more NAT's than the beta.

I loaded MSN Messenger 6, Advanced Networking Pack IPv6 and checked-out 3degrees but afterwords questioned IPv6 security. 3deg is rather cheesy software with a cool concept though...
My config was a Linksys BEFSR41 router (NAT enabled) in front of Zone Alarm 4.0.123.012 on WinXP Pro.
ZA wasn't able to detect the IPv6 connection! Sooo... You must install the IPv6 Internet connection Firewall API, making it possible to programmatically control the ports of IPv6 on your network connection... What a major hassle...

When you have the Advanced networking pack installed, the IPv6 firewall is automatically installed as well.

Most 3rd party firewall software still does not support IPv6 currently.
