Microsofts next MSN client dubbed MSN 9 is due to go into official beta testing early this week. MSN 9 will be split into two subscriptions as we've always believed. A plus! service, designed for the light user who doesn't need parental controls and advanced junk mail filtering and a premium service designed for users who need to use MSN 9 as a family application combined with all existing features and new features.

New features planned for MSN 9:

MSN Photos Plus
Enabling two users to share photos in realtime with a slideshow

Pop-up blocker
Blocking annoying internet pop-up adverts

Explorer Intergration
Intergrating MSN 9 into the taskbar and explorer as a whole

QuickGreets
Like 3 degrees greetings, send a smile, a kiss, or a LOL with QuickGreets from AmericanGreetings.com

Emoticon Factory
Create new emoticons and change Messenger emoticons to suit your fancy with blank face shapes you can customize with eyes, ears, nose, and hair stamps.

Quick Colour Change
A WMP9 feature, passed onto MSN Messenger 6.1 to enable users to quickly change the colour of an IM window with one click

Hide Menubar
Another WMP9 feature, allowing users to hide the top minimise, maximise and close options

Expect both MSN 9 and MSN Messenger 6.1 to enter beta testing early this week.

Wow, I like how MS implements pop-up blocking when they put it in IE in the first place.
Quote this comment #4.1 Posted by giantsnyy2002 on 01 Sep 2003 - 14:37
What... are you stupid? have you EVER used IE?

unless im running 3rd party software... ie always opens all the popups for any site. For that reason (and for the reason that its totally a better browser), i use Mozilla Firebird.

i think he means MS put the pop-ups in IE

What if your already paying for MSN 8, what exactly will happen when MSN 9 final comes out?
Quote this comment #7.1 Posted by simply258 on 01 Sep 2003 - 15:43
you'll be able to use 9 until your subscription ends .. you're subscribing for the service, not the specific software ..

What im concerned about is "MSN 9 will be split into two subscriptions ", what would I be using when 9 debuts? I have the Bring Your Own Access Plan

You will most likely have Premium. Plus is for the dial up and cheaper users. Since you're using BYOA it means you have broadband therefore they will probably give you the version that benefits from broadband features.

Someone said that the Photo Plus and Quickgreets features weren't going to be free? Anyone know idf this is true or not?
Quote this comment Reply to this comment #9 Posted by powerdafuture on 01 Sep 2003 - 17:05
If you have the BYOA subscription you will probably have MSN Plus!

Quote this comment #17.1 Posted by memodude on 01 Sep 2003 - 20:56
WTF are you talking about? The MSN 9 (guess its MSN Premium, not sure whether we'll be testing Premium or Plus...) beta won't debut 'til later this week!
Quote this comment #17.2 Posted by baSix on 01 Sep 2003 - 21:11
shockz - ctrl shft F9 at the signin screen fixes that easily : )

memodude - i Know exactly what i am talking about..... doYou?
(1 reply) Quote this comment Reply to this comment #18 Posted by shockz on 01 Sep 2003 - 20:54
it also screws with your e-mail settings and access if you try to use anything else then MSN 9.

Getting them to work normal again is a pain.
Quote this comment #18.1 Posted by apa1exakis on 01 Sep 2003 - 21:10
I have the same problem. Im running the alpha of MSN9 and I cant get any of my email messages to work if I use MSN8.5 at a friends house. I hope things will work well in the beta version and the final version.

Does it show you new email in hotmail but not in msnMail? do your msnMail folders show wrong mail counts? if so you might have a split inbox..... try ctrl shft F9 on the signin screen. you will be greeted by this: "Caution: you are about to remove your e-mail, address book, and calendar information from this computer. This information will automatically restored the next time you sign in to MSN."

hope this helps : )

I'm confused, so are they separate or if ur in MSN9 plus/premium they will automatically bundle wit' the latest Messenger 6.1? Or is it separate? I'm already in MSN9 beta, so do i need another guestID to get into 6.1 Messenger??

Does anyone know when we will have the new games that Msn Messenger 6.1 promised? Like......

Hexic
Challenge your friends with this puzzle game from the creator of Tetris

Just Curious. If anyone knows, hit me with a reply. Thanks!!
