Microsoft mice and keyboards. Tilt...

Software or in this case hardware firm Microsoft has never been shy about introducing new keyboard and mouse technology to the general public. Off the top of my head, it put out the first PC mouse, the first mass produced ergonomic keyboard, and the first scroll wheel mouse. Innovation at MS hardware is quite real. Recently, they made a lot of noise about the new Tilt Wheel technology, basically a scroll wheel that also rocks side to side for horizontal scrolling. This one could be very good or very bad, the only way to find out is to try it.

Late last week, MS sent me a Wireless Optical Desktop Elite, the keyboard and mouse combo, both of which have the tilt wheel. It seems both MS and Logitech have run out of adjectives to describe keyboards, and have come to the conclusion that Elite is the new word to sell product. The keyboard and mouse are both that grey/black/silver color combination that has become so trendy, the look is clean and neat. To top it off, the keys are semi-transparent grey plastic, so you can see some of the mechanicals below. I like it.

The cost per message has yet to be finalised, but SITA spokeswoman Brigitte Renaud said that pricing would be commercially agreed between the airlines, with SITA taking into consideration what passengers are prepared to pay.

The service will be supported through SITA's Aircom satellite which links via Inmarsat satellites into the company's SMS service.

According to Renaud the service will not interfere with any vital flight systems.

"It is only going to be a software upgrade, with no additions to the existing airborne configuration, so there is nothing to worry about," she said.

the way i see this tilt thing, the scroll wheel tilts to the left and right? if so that'd be sweet for games that you need to lean around corners (mohaa)

Sounds good, but I'm wondering whether the games actually need to be updated to recognize the tilt-wheel or not...

in case there are others who are peeved by the whole f-lock/re-mapping of the function keys thing -- there is a registry edit out there that flips the functionality of the f-lock key. so whereas now you got:

f lock off = help, undo, redo, etc
f lock on = F1, F2, F3, etc

impleneting this switch in the registry will make it:

f lock off = F1, F2, F3, etc
f lock on = help, undo, redo, etc

a hardware-level solution would be nicer, but seeing as that's not likely, this works pretty well for those who'd rather have their function keys. for more info on this and to download the registry files to make it happen, go to:

So where's the INSERT key? And why is DELETE so big?

I don't know if this is the right place to ask my question, but here goes. I have an Intellimouse Explorer with buttons on the side, I would like to be able to use those buttons in games like MOHAA, but the buttons don't get detected...any ideas?

Now Logitech just needs to release something like this but better.

Actually they do offer a wired mouse with TWT (Tilt Wheel Technology).

See it here:

http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseand...aspx?type=Mouse

One thing that bugs me is that they show more mice in the image header than they are making available. For example, they show red, green, and white wireless mice on the hardware main page but do not offer those mice anywhere else. What's up with that?

Definatley gonna have to get a new corded one, my Bluetooth mouse goes through batteries like Sherman went through Atlanta.
