Thanks to Fantasy for his post in BPN.

After much anticipation Microsoft has finally released version 6.1 of their popular IM client.

MSN Messenger is an instant messaging program that lets you send instant messages with cool emoticons, send pictures and other files to your friends, call a phone anywhere in the world from your computer, see when someone is typing a message to you, page a contact's mobile phone, and much more.

Download: MSN Messenger 6.1.0155 Final

Thompson, who said he sent letters to Sony and Wal-Mart to drop the game before the shootings, said, "It's not like this is coming out of the blue, they chose to ignore this danger."

San Mateo, California-based Sony and Bentonville, Arkansas-based Wal-Mart did not return calls for comment Tuesday. The lawsuit alleges the retail giant sold the game to the Buckners about a year before the shootings.

Douglas Lowenstein, president of the industry Entertainment Software Association, called the shootings "an unspeakable tragedy" but said blaming a game played by millions for the boys' actions was "misguided and counterproductive."

"There is no credible evidence that violent games lead to violent behavior," he said. "While video games may provide a simple excuse for the teenagers involved in this incident, responsibility for violent acts belongs to those who commit them."

Thompson has made similar claims in the past and lost, notably a $33 million lawsuit against video game makers stemming from the 1997 school shooting near Paducah, Kentucky, by a 14-year-old boy.

The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in the case last year that it was "simply to far a leap from shooting characters on a video screen to shooting people in a classroom."

Sure, running adaware takes so long and is a very hard task...

And you missed it, so it's your fault Don't blame the software ^_^;

How do you run this program? I press Crack and find the .exe and then what? Only other options are About and Exit.

Ahh I spoke too soon...You have to exit Messenger first...

If you messed your PC with Messenger Plus! by not disabling the spyware option, uninstall Messenger Plus!. Patchou even had beta testers fcsk their own PCs with the spyware then uninstall Messenger Plus! and check if the spyware was gone.

For a faster, better, free-er spyware scanner, get Spybot Search & Destroy.

this would have to be one of the weakest releases by MS ever there is a few new things like the colour changer in IM windows and a few others and it seems to run a bit somther but appart from that it is much the same
Quote this comment #8.1 Posted by Rascally on 23 Oct 2003 - 10:04
Yeah, that's why it's a minor (.1) release as opposed to a major (like 7.0) release.
Quote this comment #8.2 Posted by AustinM1983 on 23 Oct 2003 - 10:05
true i do see your point but i still would have liked a bit more ... oh well
Quote this comment #8.3 Posted by idoia on 23 Oct 2003 - 10:13
naaa, im no expert in this but have u seen changes in for example AOL 8.0 to AOL 8.1 , its a very minor release, its not like from 6.0 to 7.0. . Or did you expect a 6.0.0.0.1.0.9.5.2 type release (like those from Yahoo Messenger)

its always the hype too what it makes people to expect more and more

well dont microsoft has any sort of changelog? the only difference quite apparent is the outer shell is now hidable. does not matter much . and a big big installer with the msi engine? they should have given 2 seperate installers for that...
Quote this comment #11.1 Posted by Avi on 23 Oct 2003 - 11:25
I'm sure they will have the changlog once http://messenger.msn.com/ will be updated. "2 seperate installers"? Are you nutz?! So they will have more people bitching? Who cares if the installer is 2-4MB more? Today, I'm downloading 2CDs apps all the time.

i would say only this...
at a time when complete browser is available in around 3.5 megs.
at a time when a great image viewer is available for less than a meg.
a messenger program reaches 8 megs. now thats microsoft speciality.

Click the little smiley icon and go to "My Custom Emoticons"

There are quite a few sites with online emoticon creators, and there are some programs to download that do it too.

Do you mean click on the smiley icon TAB or is the icon somewhere else. I also noticed that if you do click on the smiley tab, it still mentions sharing emoticons in the MSN Messenger 6.0 MSN groups.

Edit: I think you can also go to Tools > Create Emoticons

Hopefully the creator will make another without polygomy, or have an option like most do. Sure is a cool patcher though, lol.

How is having polygamy a bad thing for you guys, if I may ask...
Quote this comment #18.8 Posted by net-cruizer on 23 Oct 2003 - 19:38
Why is it a good thing may I ask? lol.
Anyways, I don't think of it as a bad thing really, but a user should have the choice.
Like not just the choice to have it done with a patch, but the choice to have it period. Which probably aint possable, but what I mean, is how Winamp is for example, you have the choice to enable multiple instances if you want, and even if you have Winamp set to not allow multiple instances, you still can run another instance using a key combination.
As is, if a Messenger user has automatic sign-in enabled, which I bet most people do, as it wouldn't be very automated if they didn't, then in that case, when a new instance is launched, the originally user would be signed out from the original instance and signed back into the new instance, which seems pretty silly to me.

Quote this comment #28.1 Posted by Huy on 24 Oct 2003 - 01:16
You mean differences between Windows Messenger 5.0 and MSN Messenger 6.0?

MSN Messenger is an instant messaging program that lets you send instant messages with cool emoticons, send pictures and other files to your friends, call a phone anywhere in the world from your computer, see when someone is typing a message to you, page a contact's mobile phone, and much more.

Taken from http://www.neowin.net/comments.php?categor...ftware&id=14640

Windows Messenger is the instant messaging client of choice for businesses in managed environments with connectivity to Exchange Instant Messaging Servers and SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) based Instant Messaging Servers, along with connectivity to the MSN Messenger service.
