Microsoft re-issued this bulletin on October 29, 2003 to advise on the availability of an updated Windows XP patch. This revised patch corrects the Debug Programs (SeDebugPrivilege) user right issue that some customers experienced with the original patch that is discussed in Knowledge Base Article 830846. This problem is unrelated to the security vulnerability discussed in this bulletin, however the problem has caused some customers difficulty installing the patch. If you have previously applied this security patch, this update does not need to be installed.

This is a patch they released LAST WEEK, but people had problems installing it, or shoing it as being installed, so they released a fixed version. If you have already installed the patch before, and it sdoes not show up on Windows update, your fine.

if they can login, then a patch wont do ****.....

format c: is still format c:

what i gather is that theres a security hole that lets the person in, and then to really exploit it, they need to be able to login. so this patch closes the door before they can even reach the login part.

so i dunno..doesn't seem stupid to me
#6.2 mattboy_slim on 31 Oct 2003 - 01:31
Except for the fact that "format c:" won't work with someone logged on

" A security issue has been identified that could allow an attacker to compromise a computer running Microsoft Windows and gain control over it." What's new?
Can we have WinXP SP2 already?

I have the original 15th Oct patches installed like many others does this mean when I come to update a "new" patch it will hang as it says in 830846 or will they install fine as the pc has been fine since applying these patches 2 weeks ago.

No wonder people get so bloody confused with M$ releasing the same patches over and over again

Gah!! My eyes burn from all of these security patches....

Oh well.....

how is this NEWS only NOW? i've had this patch installed exactly 2 weeks ago (oct16)!

VOODOOOOOOOOOOOO

Next time, you might want to state it in the title Security Update REVISION for Microsoft Windows XP: KB824141 etc

State it is a REVISION as thats what it is. I recieved this info a couple days ago, but posting here without the wording REVISION will just confuse people.

If you wish to subscribe to Microsoft Security Bulletin in which they will send you emails for when there is a security alert/patch/REVISION, go here
http://register.microsoft.com/subscription/subscribeme.asp?id=166
Note, MS WILL NEVER send a patch/file in the email. All relevant info about the Security Emailing System can be found
