- I'm curious if this will be compatible with iChatAV? Knowing AOL, it probably won't.

- it would make sense to be! If so, i *AM* getting an iSight!
... Wonder if AOL will use the 'standards' Apple introduced for Video / Audio streaming - Surely doing so would be 'relatively' easy?!
This is GREAT news!!

- There's actually a patch out there that will let you use iChatAV with pretty much any USB webcam that is supported in OS X. I can't see paying over $100 for a webcam when I have three perfectly good USB cams sitting around here, two of which aren't even being used anymore.

- Search versiontracker for "usb webcam". One of the results there has some info on it. I can't remember the exact software at the moment.

- Im used the beta of AIM thats out now, 5.5.3415, it secretly install Wild Tangent, I had got #$% mad, I uninstalled it, and AIM worked fine, but for some strange reason I had to reinstall it every 3 days, cause it would not load. I downgraded to the 5.2.3292

- I don't understand this. Wouldn't it have made sense for AOL to release a version internationally with the Webcam functionality, but leave it out for the US version because of this restriction? Then they would have been able to compete in other markets globally. The other advantage of this is when it is allowed in the US, they can release it immediately, since it is already written.
This happens in the reverse - the United States gets all the features, and so does Australia, but they are unavailable due to it recognising I'm from Australia. Surely doing the reverse wouldn't have been out of the question.
Though I hate to say it (since I like Americans in general), but maybe it was difficult for them to deal with the fact that something was just out of their reach. Therefore the solution is, since "we can't have it, nobody can have it". Hmmm, well in today's society you would think we have progressed further than that. Though if you look at the antics of Bob Brown when George Bush was here addressing federal government here, you would definately see otherwise.

- If it's not compatible with iChat, then AOL needs to be shut down because of their lack of intelligence.

"We're looking to have the feature in a beta version of AIM before the end of the year," AOL spokesman Derrick Mains said. In addition, AOL is testing IM streaming video in its proprietary online service, code-named Tahiti. The company said the software will offer a number of new features, such as the ability to dial into the Internet without launching the AOL service. AOL has not set a time frame for launching Tahiti.
AOL's IM tests come months after the Federal Communications Commission lifted restrictions that barred AOL from offering streaming video over IM. The FCC's rules had been imposed as a condition of approving the merger between America Online and Time Warner in 2001. The FCC believed the restrictions would prevent AOL from achieving an unfair advantage by offering high-speed services through its IM services, which at the time enjoyed an overwhelmingly large share of the market.
