- Kind of amusing. Messenger 6.1 has been available for download on messenger.msn.com for at least a week and it just now gets posted on Neowin? Quick notice.
Then what's MSN Plus going to ship with?QUOTE MSN Premium is expected to ship with MSN Messenger 6.1. -
#3.2 Posted by jmc777 on 12 Nov 2003 - 23:07
- Please pay attention! This is an update from version 6.1.0155 to 6.1.0202.
-
#3.3 Posted by Avenger on 12 Nov 2003 - 23:13
- Ohh I'm soo sorry <<Sarcasm
, but I don't see the original build number mentioned anywhere in the article.
Perhaps you ought to pay more attention.
-
#3.4 Posted by jmc777 on 12 Nov 2003 - 23:29
- The download link clearly says "Download: MSN Messenger 6.1.0202". Try to pay more attention in future, thank you.

- OWNED !

#3.7 Posted by creamhackered on 13 Nov 2003 - 09:09
- Obviously you missed the part where it says "MSN Messenger 6.1 has been silently updated", doh.
-
#3.8 Posted by Avenger on 13 Nov 2003 - 18:56
QUOTE (#3.4) The download link clearly says "Download: MSN Messenger 6.1.0202
Duh, I know what the LINK says. I was referring to the build number before it was silently updated. Not what the build number is after the update. That too hard to understand?

- thanks for the info just now a couple of problems
need ads patch
need pologomy
need games patch
-
#4.1 Posted by free_loader19 on 13 Nov 2003 - 02:48
- If you're realllly desperate for the ads patch, download Messenger Plus! at http://www.msgplus.net which has many features including the ads remover whenever you need it.
However,if you want the polygamy and games patch I don't know of any for the moment, but you never know there might be a plugin for Plus! -

- Maybe they just updated the .EXE because they realized someone cracked their Ads.
-
#12.1 Posted by goofydave on 13 Nov 2003 - 02:04
- Nup. Ad Patch still works.
Windows X version of the patch was for all 6.x versions -
#12.2 Posted by mipra on 13 Nov 2003 - 03:02
- and Messenger Plus! from Patchou is still working as well
-
#12.3 Posted by XP-RTM on 13 Nov 2003 - 03:27
- i dont like to install a program i dont like or use just to remove the ads of msn messenger its wasting space and resources not much but it is
its funny what they have on their site
Messenger Plus! is a freeware. Freeware is neither spyware nor shareware but freeware. It's 100% free to use and you can choose not to install the sponsor program that comes with it. -
#12.4 Posted by Davebo on 13 Nov 2003 - 04:05
- Where can I grab a copy of that patch, please?
The Windows X version, that is... -
#12.5 Posted by goofydave on 13 Nov 2003 - 06:00
- http://www.mess.be
I noticed I been qouted there. Unfortunately I am not talking about the Windows X full Installer (which is 6.1.0155 anyways). I'm talking about a 15KB Zip File containing msnpatch.exe -

That's right!

Actions > Start 3 degree musicmix
That's new, right? -
#14.1 Posted by net-cruizer on 13 Nov 2003 - 03:51
- Nope, that's not new. Would show in any version if you had 3degrees installed also.
Microsoft Portrait will show in the list also on any version, if you have it installed.

#15 Posted by Chrysalis on 13 Nov 2003 - 03:42
- they still not fixed the hardcoded problem where it loads IE instead of custom browser, and not just hardlocked to IE but hardlocked to loading IE from c:program filesinternet explorer dir even tho I have XP installed on D drive.
-
#15.1 Posted by noll3095 on 13 Nov 2003 - 04:36
- Uh... mine opens Firebird, always has since I remember setting it as my default browser.
-
#15.2 Posted by NeoNut on 13 Nov 2003 - 20:16
- I have Opera as my default browser and it still opens IE
-
#15.3 Posted by Shovel on 14 Nov 2003 - 02:09
- Still using the older 6.1 release and it's been openning Firebird by default all the time.
Bugs I have:
o A bug where after posting a custom smily, all future smilies do not get translated, so the : ) characters remain, and then the images appear at the end of the line.
o A bug where URLs get screwed up and can't be clicked on
o Another message history display bug where the last line of text displays scrambled and the "Nickname Says:" prefix seems to get "stuck".
I'll update soon and see whether it fixes it or not.

- anyone has a ad-remover and ONLY ad-remover? i believe many don't need msn plus! or even windows-x multipatcher.
-
#17.1 Posted by net-cruizer on 13 Nov 2003 - 04:44
- I'm not updating till there are some seperate patches available. And I have Plus! installed, but that's just not the same.
-
#17.2 Posted by Dale on 13 Nov 2003 - 05:07
- whats wrong with the Plus! add-remover... it works fine for me...
-
#17.3 Posted by eSouL on 13 Nov 2003 - 05:11
- nothing wrong with it. just that, many others like myself don't need all those fancy features in plus!
-
#17.4 Posted by net-cruizer on 13 Nov 2003 - 05:55
- I love the features of Messenger Plus!, I just would rather use an adpatch to remove the ads, than just hide them with Plus!
Plus! only hides the banners from showing, they are really still there, whereas a patch actually removes the code from the exe, therefor the ads are truly gone. -
#17.5 Posted by Mystical112 on 13 Nov 2003 - 20:04
- mess.be has a remover and a polgamy patch....
u cna pick which ones u want also....
-
#18 Posted by biko on 13 Nov 2003 - 04:52
- Add Remover please?

#19 Posted by BrY on 13 Nov 2003 - 05:25
- THIS IS THE BIGGEST PEEVE about the new version:
You are now signing out of MSN Messenger. All conversations will be closed.
This displays when you try to exit and there are open convos.
How do you turn that notification off, or can SOMEONE PLEASE make a patch that would get rid of this prompt that onlly caters to IDIOTIC MORONS who can't refer to logging. -
#19.1 Posted by net-cruizer on 13 Nov 2003 - 05:58
- Did you look at the registry entries of MSN Messenger? There may just be a setting you can change to disable that message. I don't know, I haven't upgraded yet, lol.
-
#19.2 Posted by Krome on 13 Nov 2003 - 06:07
- lol... I guess MSN was design with "morons" on their mind..
-
#19.3 Posted by BeRtJeKnOrR on 13 Nov 2003 - 17:14
- i have always seen that notification, even in 3.6
-
#20 Posted by nathanintu on 13 Nov 2003 - 06:42
- MSN Premium to ship with MSN Messenger 6.1 eh?
Now that's going to be a big download.
-
#21 Posted by Gary_Player on 13 Nov 2003 - 07:13
- Is that why MSN has been so gay for the past 2 days? Everybody gets booted off every few hours

- Does this fix the fact that audio conversations never seem to work through firewalls at all ? Due to the fact they use ports 5000 to 60000 and all of those have to be blocked really for there to be a firewall !
-
#23.1 Posted by IGx89 on 13 Nov 2003 - 15:31
- A friend of mine got MSN voicechat working perfectly over his router (d-link or linksys), and I don't think he was using this new build. All he had to do was enable the UPnP option in his firewall configuration interface

-
#23.2 Posted by tomaras on 13 Nov 2003 - 15:57
- No problems here with video or voice through a firewall. No issues at all since the beta of 6 quite some time ago. I have video/voice conversations with at least four other users on a regular basis... all with Win XP firewall enabled on both side of the divide with no user intervention.

- gotta update em skins again
-
#27.1 Posted by net-cruizer on 13 Nov 2003 - 17:54
- lol, that's got to be quite the pain in the @ss eh?
Would sure drive me nuts if I just finished a whack of skins like you did, and then a new build comes out.
I bet you wish there was an easier way to apply the skins eh?
Anyways, you have quite the awsome skins and I sure would use them if there was a way to just apply them as if they were just a skin like with other programs.
Would be nice if MS took that into consideration, and allowed for skinning.

#28.1 Posted by Latka on 13 Nov 2003 - 21:07
- Maybe if you read the comments, you can see that there's no need of an updated ad patcher, since old ones work on this version.
Refer to comment #12. -
#28.2 Posted by net-cruizer on 13 Nov 2003 - 22:06
- That patch by WindowsX is a full installer of patches and skins, not just a seperate ad patch like most people are asking for. And from what I understand, if you use that patch, you need to uninstall MSN Messenger first. I highly doubt that's what many people want to do, unless they want Messenger skinned as well.
Anyways, there are lots of new patches out for this new build anyways.
Some that do everything, some that just remove ads, and some give you the choice of what you want patched.
Mess.be and MSN Fanatic are good places to look.
