I guess that no one here was planning on buying one the first week they come out, and has found
that their life is ruined for 3 more months... -

I have a watch, thank you very much...I don't need something like the SPOT; if I wanted a toy I'd save my money and get Fortress Maximus (G1) off of eBay!!!

- If it's over $200 it's a rip.

- No sh1t. Why do you think they are avoiding the magnets and clock radios (which are probably more useful)?
ANSWER: No one, absolutely no one, can be fooled into buying a 2 to 3 hundred dollar magnet or clock radio, but some suckers (I can think of quite a few here) may be able to rationalize a $300 digital watch that tells them it's raining but runs out of battery in 8 hours.

- will Bill Gates or Steve Ballman wear that kind of watch with the executives?
Wouldn't that diminish their status?

Executives at Citizen Watch Co., one of the companies slated to manufacture SPOT watches, also said Friday that they may pull out of the partnership and not ship a SPOT watch at all.
The watches were originally supposed to ship this fall, according to a speech made by Microsoft's chief software architect, Bill Gates, at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this past January. Partners, including Citizen, Fossil Inc. and Suunto – said they were working with Microsoft to develop and commercialize the new technology.
For Microsoft, the SPOT watches represent another foray by Microsoft into the consumer space, a market that traditional PC companies like Dell Computer and Gateway have also encroached upon. Other future Microsoft-branded devices may also use the SPOT technology, including items like high-tech refrigerator magnets.
