not being able to use my vb applications in linux is one of the main reasons i don't bother using it. i think this is a great selling point

Interesting...can SuSe do this legally to run Microsoft apps on their software? Or will they have to pay royalties.

I think they can legally run the software from MS, but good luck trying to get support from MS on the software that is running under SuSe...

Have you ever needed help running Word/Excell/Powerpoint/Outlook, or ANY MS program(other than it's OS of course)?
Most of these programs can already be run from linux but it's nice to see a corporate distro make an effort to help it's users out a bit in this area. Sometimes getting Wine working correctly can be a real bitch.

crossover office is neat...ive tried it and i got photoshop 7, office, and ie6 working perfectly in linux however some of their interface components seemed not to function as well as in windows such as a text box. i havent tried winex but graphics drivers for linux are very underpowered so it didnt seem to have a point

The drivers aren't worked on as much as drivers for Windows, but I've never actually noticed slower performance even with the 'shotty' linux drivers.

I've played HL/ET/war3/Q3/UT2k3 and never noticed slower performance compared to on my XPro machine. Give it another try

EDIT: geforce 4 ti4200 by the way

When I first started Linux, I thought that wine was a killer app, and would be needed to run Windows programs. Now, I find that I really don't ever use it. I think of it as more of a crutch, like dual-booting is. Once you decide to keep your crutches, your legs will never gain the full strength they should have, and you will always need the crutches.

I now think of wine as pretty evil, but necessary for limited applications (mostly businesses and corporations). Kinda like AOL. So the stupid people can get online, too! (it was a JOKE, please no AOLers flame me!)

AOL doesn't MAKE people stupid.. it doesn't even Require stupidity.. but it COLLECTS it..
