-
#2.3 Posted by defcon7 on 20 Nov 2003 - 20:54
- Neither do I and I got the email.
Also, regarding downloading a leaked version, I would really, REALLY suggest against it. I downloaded one of the early versions of SP2 and it forced me to pull every piece of the service pack out one by one... It got so bad that I had to reformat, which as I'm sure you're aware of, it's a rather time-consuming and annoying thing to do...

- I tried a beta version of SP2, way back in May, all was well and dandy until I installed one of those longhorn transformation packs, My computer would not reboot, I was like u know no more betas or none of the flashy eye candy for me anymore
-
#11.1 Posted by kiddingguy on 20 Nov 2003 - 16:32
- I'm not so into beta-testing products, but what I do know and heard is that you have to know what you are doing when going into this beta-stuff. I just leave it to the pros and just be a beta-n00b
-
#11.2 Posted by Mister Lamar on 20 Nov 2003 - 17:21

#16 Posted by gflores on 20 Nov 2003 - 17:10
- sorry if this is a dumb question, but will there be a new version of IE included in the SP?
-
#16.1 Posted by xpfreak on 20 Nov 2003 - 17:19
- most likely it will be a "ie6 sp2" version with a popup-blocker and a few other things
-
#16.4 Posted by plasticparadox on 20 Nov 2003 - 18:45
- As far as I'm concerned, it's too little too late. Pop-up blockers have become standard on all other browsers and the fact that IE is catching up now amuses me.
God, are they ever smug. Just because they have 95%+ market share doesn't mean they can rest on their laurels and let everything slip. I'm not switching back from Opera. -
#16.6 Posted by mipra on 21 Nov 2003 - 02:50
- Man..built-in popup stopper aint good at all...they (the advertiser) will come out with something that is even more sophisticated
-
#17 Posted by dougkinzinger on 20 Nov 2003 - 17:37
- IE will be IE 6.05 I believe....at least, that's what it was in alpha builds of SP2.
-
#18 Posted by nezermundy on 20 Nov 2003 - 18:53
- IE has left it a bit late for a pop-up blocker Norton Firewall has one AOL has one and many more do. It should of been realsed back on 5.5

#20 Posted by Mav Phoenix on 20 Nov 2003 - 19:54
- I would've thought that they'd include tabbed browsing before popup blocking.
-

#21 Posted by Journeyman on 20 Nov 2003 - 20:05
- You want tabbed browsing and popup blocking in IE? Why wait for MS? Avant Browser already does the job and it's freeware.

#22.1 Posted by rseiler on 20 Nov 2003 - 21:13
- What hasn't shown up yet, the beta? The email indicates a couple weeks, so look for it in December.

#22.2 Posted by Michael Lerner on 21 Nov 2003 - 00:40
- I mean the nomination form. To actually get access you have to fill out a form, strange concept eh?

- How about an Internet Explorer with decent CSS support? Or support for alpha transparent PNGs? Or support for the latest JavaScript spec? As a web developer who has to constantly downgrade his sites after realizing that only modern browsers such as Mozilla Firebird and Opera support the latest CSS and image formats to a needed extent, I would be most greatful.

- Alpha Transparent PNGs can be kludge-enabled by following the instructions here:
PNG Behaviour (WebFX)
And if you want a demo of how this works in IE, check this out:

That's just a workaround for making Alpha-Trans PNG images to work in IE. And a webpage author still has to go through all that trouble to make it work.
Microsoft still needs to fix IE bad.-

Hence why I referred to it as a kludge - and, really, is including one line of CSS and dropping a file in the root of your website really 'all that trouble'?
QUOTE Microsoft still needs to fix IE bad.
I'm not saying they don't - I just thought it helpful to the web developers who need to use transparent PNGs on their websites. It'd be nice if IE7 had it all built in, but then - for that - you'll need to wait for Longhorn!
