AMD yesterday released its new Mobile Athlon 64 processors designed specifically for notebook systems that work on battery power. The new products compliment existing line of AMD64 CPUs for desktop replacement portable computers unveiled in September 2003.

64-bit microprocessors for notebooks from AMD are available in three flavors depending on performance level in general and clock-speed in particular; these are models 2800+, 3000+ and 3200+ functioning at 1.60GHz, 1.80GHz and 2.0GHz respectively. The CPUs have 1MB of full-speed on-die L2 cache and single-channel DDR SDRAM memory controller, like the majority of other AMD Athlon 64 processors in 754-pin packaging. Even though AMD positions its new chips for the market of extremelly powerful notebooks, thermal design power of Mobile AMD Athlon 64 processors is 62W – really lot for mobile central processing units. Thanks to PowerNow! technology, the chips will consume significantly less electricity under typical load.

My old laptop was one of those early Non-M Pentium 4s (exactly same processor as a desktop) That thing ran HOT!!

ya know - I've always been an intel fan - but AMD is really pulling out all the stops now - and intel doesn't have anything to answer it. Too bad Microsoft is stalling on the 64bit version of windows. Intel pressure.

haha thats funny, exactly the opposite of me, i use to love AMD but im not very impressed with them lately and i built myself a P4 system (much better)

Intel and Microsoft for some reason just couldn't design 64 processors/software. The big question is why?

#2.1 : Well actually mate even the 3.2 Ghz regular P4 can't keep up with Athlon64 3000+ (read : 3x00+ ) so you jumped a bit late

Yes, I believe that my next computer that I'm going to but is going to be a laptopwith an AMD-64M 3200+ (I like to have 600mhz clock/equivelent speed between each computer I buy, and since the 3200+ has a nice round 2.0ghz clock speed, I'll go for a 800mhz jump instead :cool
