Google trying out a new look?

Some Neowin forum members have noticed Google trying out a new look from time to time on them. You can see a few examples of this in the screenshots below. Member poind writes :

"(i) Had the "Google Web" label for websearches, font sizes were a bit different, mildly different layout. Think they're still randomly testing, but don't know why since there was nothing indicating feedback ability. Did have more direct ability to go to things like Froogle and so on."

As poind has written, the main difference that this author can see is the changed bar at the top of the page (see screenshots), and various little changes in the CSS code (the code that defines the layout of the page) across the search results. Other noticeable changes are the (definition) link at the top of the page next to the search result, presumably offering to define your search results (nothing new). Also to be noted is the tighter integration with the other elements of Google (Images, Groups, Directories, News) with a quick link down at the bottom of the search results.

Currently Google seems to be testing this quite randomly; you need the "lucky" cookie to be able to get it to work. However, given time they will no doubt open it up to a wider audience.

In other Google news, Google have recently released the 2003 Zeitgeist, a page with lots of information on what was searched for and when. Read it here.

Did you try reading the news post?!

They are testing this system randomly, and i guess at the moment to a pretty small / limited audience.

Well, our members have stated that it is based on whether or not google have sent you this "special" cookie. If you have it, you see the new site, if you dont, you see normal google.
