- Well, regardless of how recent the updates are, it will be a good thing for the people who don't have broadband. Imagine downloading all those updates on dial-up!

- Don't think it can hold a candle to AutoPatcher, but I've ordered one anyway to give it a whirl.

- What are included in the Security CD? any detail updates?
Won't it be like a bit wasted. Since SP2 is coming around the corner.

All well and good, but why only to 4 months ago? There's been loads of patches since then. Why not make it as up to date as possible (end of Jan would be great)
Why doesn't the dropdown for "Outside the US and Canada" include UK? Users have to fight through the UK site (and know they have to)? Not good enough.
Why does the UK version need you to have a Passport account, but the US doesn't? And while we're at it, who thought up the stupid secret questions? I, my "spouse" (not married) and my father have no middle names, I don't have children, never went to a "high school" (the site *knows* I'm in UK), favourite film and sports team is likely to change without notice, anniversary is in US format (again it knows what country I'm in and the entirety of Europe uses the same format). Oh, and you can't register in Firefox.

That aside, what antivirus and firewall trials are included? Obviously not the free ones (AVG and ZoneAlarm)

- i think its very kind of ms to be doing this for free... makes me feel better about the company...

#17 Posted by VikingStorm on 18 Feb 2004 - 11:54
- The free antivirus and firewall is a one year subscription to CA eTrust (most likely, since they offer that free online from Microsoft)

- Can't help but feel microsoft may be monitoring who orders the CD and seeing that 80% of the peeps who did haven't got a registered version of XP. Could be possible...

- 'Registered' and Pirated are 2 totally different things.
There is nothing illegal with not registering your software. -

What does this have to do with who has not registered Windows XP? It is for other version not just XP.

The Windows Security Update CD will be shipped to you free of charge. This CD includes Microsoft critical updates released through October 2003 and information to help you protect your PC. In addition, you will also receive free antivirus and firewall trial software.
This CD is only available for Windows XP, Windows Me, Windows 2000, Windows 98, and Windows 98 Second Edition (SE).
Here it is, the new version. Nothing major in this one, really. There are a couple of little bug fixes and some general polishing. It's getting almost impossible to release versions because there's just nothing to add to it. Although there are actually two things that could be done, but they would involve rewriting big chunks of the code and loads of testing. So consider this the final version until one of two things happen: 1) Someone finds a bug. 2) Adobe breaks the app so it doesn't work anymore and I end up having to fix it.
One final thing. If Adobe Acrobat/Reader gives you any errors after you run ARSU, then do a Restore Configuration, activate Plugin Help and make sure that you aren't disabling any plugins that depend on other plugins to work. This is not a bug of ARSU. It's simple common sense. Anyway, changelog..
