But Redmond has no plans to patch pre-2002 versions of its developer tools so that they will work with Windows XP SP2. Microsoft is planning to "service" its 2002 and 2003 versions of the .Net Framework and Visual Studio tool suite in order to insure they will work properly with Windows XP Service Pack (SP) 2. But versions of the .Net Framework and Visual Studio suite that predate 2002 won't be upgraded, a company spokesman said, as they lack a number of security enhancements needed by SP2.

with proprietory commercial software you get little support and no bug fixes. you can't look at the code to fix it, and like hell anyone from the company will help you solve your problems. by the time they are solved, it's already too late.
with open source software you got all the code to yourself, you can do anything with it and you can fix everyone elses mistakes and take credit for it. if you need help, you need to pay, if you want a fix, you need to wait. if you want it done right, do it yourself. and if you're too stupid to do it yourself, then go back to Windows and let M$ do the thinkin for you
