Why don't they not bother i only download if there is a change, not stopping all sorts of other things working like msg plus and plugins...
#10 bedrock on 09 Mar 2004 - 20:55
Not gonna write a ad-remover when we're expecting 6.2 in a few weeks, but here's the offsets if you can cope with a hex editor:

http://windowsx.org/download/msn6patch.zip

That patch works, it removes ads and enables polygamy.
#12.1 mipra on 11 Mar 2004 - 03:06
so darn fast.....go man..go...
#13 Jedimark on 09 Mar 2004 - 22:41
Hey if you wanna prevent the adverts in MSN Messenger 6.x all you have to do is:

1) Start --> Run --> %temp%
2) Open the file links.txt
3) Delete everything in it... save and close...
4) Then set "Read Only" permissions to the links.txt file

Of course you are still left with the MSN Messenger banner... but you wont get any adverts. Messenger Plus! will remove the Ad Bar for you.

i still get 207 after installing. and my install file is digitally signed on Dec 18 2003. Downloaded both setup.exe and setupDL from messenger.msn.com site. Cleared cache many times. All still install to 207. What am I doing wrong?

Ok maybe this is a good time to ask this question, should I use MSN Messenger, or the one built into XP. I am using SP2 Beta by the way.
#18.1 pete_moriarty on 10 Mar 2004 - 07:55
im not sure about sp2 having any effect but definately use msn messenger. windows messenger sucks. it is only in version 5 or something and msn messenger is coming up to version 6.2 msn messenger is more advanced, sleek and easier to use than windows messenger. i dont even know why they have two seperate programs??? maybe someone could help me out with that.
#18.2 Zepolcire on 10 Mar 2004 - 08:21
Ya I cant figure that out either. However, in SP2, there are some things that showed up that werent there before, like the ability to have the notifications not show up when I am using a full screen app. Anyways, I switched to the MSN version, and it seems to be a lot more full of junk, like links and tabs to more things that I won't use, but the sounds are better
#18.3 pete_moriarty on 10 Mar 2004 - 11:18
no seriously zepolcire go for msn. it has heaps more junk yes but it has cool stuff lke display picture and custom emoticons. it also looks much better, especially for those running xp. i downloaded a file from www.mess.be (the best msn messenger site on earth) called "msn 6 custom games patch".
-it allows you to play extra games with anyone else who has also installed the patc. however. as well as the extra games. this patch also adds a neowin.net tab to your msn messenger down the left side. this tab displays hot forum topics and stuff liek that and is really really useful for getting the best forum topics at your fingertips. just hit "refresh" every now and then on the tab to update to the newest forum posts. This is a great file from www.mess.be and i highly recommend anyone who uses msn messenger and neowin.net to use this as it is so convenient.

screenshot of the neowin tab.... make sure you enlarge it in your browser http://www.freewebs.com/petermoriarty/images/neowin_msn_tab.jpg
#18.4 Zepolcire on 10 Mar 2004 - 18:27
Woah that is sweet. Ok, I am going to stick with the MSN version. Thanks pete.
#18.5 SBDJ on 18 Mar 2004 - 20:56
Windows Messenger provides services such as SIP wheras MSN Messenger doesn't. I guess they could integrate the two but I perhaps it would just add bloat to MSN Messenger...

does msn plus work with this new version?[SIZE=14][B]
#20.1 jameseuk on 10 Mar 2004 - 18:57
Messenger Plus works fine with the new MSN Messenger build, MSN plus(MSN's latest browser) should work fine with it, I'm using Premium and it works fine along with the new build of msn messenger
#21 mipra on 12 May 2004 - 05:06
It works well and nice...
