Does the official pack update to the same versions as the leaked one did a few weeks back?
#3.1 dougkinzinger on 09 Mar 2004 - 16:48
I don't know, but I would doubt it. It's possible, though.
#3.2 xStainDx on 09 Mar 2004 - 16:53
Whats it matter? I'd download this over anything leaked anyway.
#3.3 NeoTech on 09 Mar 2004 - 22:05
I would too, just to be on the safe side.
#4 chorpeac on 09 Mar 2004 - 16:51

No new features though
#5.1 JaggedFlame on 09 Mar 2004 - 18:33
What do you think a "service pack" is?
#5.2 Knight' on 09 Mar 2004 - 23:06
Such pertenant questions young grass hopper, no, seriously I know what a service pack. But if you were perceptive enough I was actually making a reference to Microsofts latest trend on adding features to products via service packs. So I ask you, WHAT IS A SERVICE PACK? huh?
#5.3 JaggedFlame on 09 Mar 2004 - 23:32
Yeah, Knight', I'm unperceptive because I wasn't able to glean all that information from your little four-word post.

Lay off the speed. Oh, and by the way, it's not a "trend" when you do something different for one product.
#5.4 soMexican on 09 Mar 2004 - 23:34
Or at least share the goods!
#5.5 ricknl on 10 Mar 2004 - 12:26
It's no surprise that Microsoft doesn't add any new features. Office XP is not the 'newest' thing out there. You may expect new features to be added with Office 2003 SP1 though...

Good finding. I may give it a try sometimes.
#6.1 dougkinzinger on 09 Mar 2004 - 18:09

QUOTE

When installing SP3, you may be prompted to insert one or more of your original Office XP CD-ROMs. If you do not have access to your original Office XP CD-ROM you can install Office XP SP3 Full File Version (58925 KB). Follow the instructions on the screen to complete installation.

Looks nice, so I downloaded that update. Run the installer: "the feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM....". Yep, it works like a charm.....

Nice. You should hop onto the Microsoft public newsgroups and report it; I would.

#10.5 Magallanes on 10 Mar 2004 - 15:39
/me too use office2003 and it rulz!.

(/me is not equal to /you but /me is /me)

Anyways. Office 2k is quite stable, office xp have more unstability and "nice" features (bugs). Office 2003 is really more like a office xp v2.0 with a stupid Outlook interface (but still useable).

Some organizations would rather use Office XP then spend the money to upgrade to Office 2003. Especially if they do not need the new features. Hell, Office 97 would still work for me...
#13.1 NeoTech on 09 Mar 2004 - 22:08
Office 97 would work for me, but there are some features and things I couldn't like without lol But Office 2003 hasn't changed to much I've heard.
#14 memodude on 10 Mar 2004 - 04:10
Too bad there aren't any new features. However, I would assume it has a chockfull of security fixes, so it isn't all bad.

Microsoft has been continuing a trend of adding features in service packs; InfoPath is due in for a major overhaul in Office 2003 SP1, Windows XP SP2 has a large number of new features, and even Windows XP SP1 added some minor fixes. SQL Server 2000 SP3 and some other Microsoft server service packs added features too, and some Microsoft server service packs are a prerequisite for various feature packs.
#15 Timble on 10 Mar 2004 - 09:40
Well it's been a while, hasn't it? I downloaded Office XP SP2 on 29 October 2002, more than 16 months ago, and that wasn't even on the day of release...
#16 jorgeivan2k3 on 11 Mar 2004 - 02:02

#17 mipra on 12 May 2004 - 05:07
