Nvidia announces developer program and software development kit for 3D content on cell phones and other handhelds.

Nvidia has today announced that it is looking to bring 3D content to cell phones through the introduction of its developer program for hardware accelerated 3D applications on cell phones and other handhelds. The Santa Clara-based company has also announced the immediate availability of its handheld software development kit (SDK).

"Cell phone users are becoming increasingly sophisticated in how they use their phones. Carriers looking for innovative ways to offer their customers new services are already integrating features such as camera phones and video phones," said Mark Daly, vice president of content development at Nvidia. "The obvious next step in this genesis is to bring the type of compelling 3D content that already exists on other platforms to the handheld market."

i'm not sure how much "compelling 3D content that already exists on other platforms" would be useful on a phone. The only compelling 3D content that I've ever seen on my desktop are games and CAD tools.

Probably just means more games for your cells.
