- Good grief.........what is this crap again about social groupISM..........
Just a bunch of low selfesteim (sp) people who think that if they have "friends"
with certain things, then they will be more popular.
I see it every day.....they have to drive a certain type car, wear a certain type
of clothes, live in a certain area.
LOL, I've had people I know (note I didn't use the word friends), ask me why
I drive a mustang........ummmm.......gee.....I don't know, maybe because I
LIKE THEM? I thought you would be driving an SUV.........LOL......nothing
against SUV's.....more power to you if that is what YOU want to drive, but
sorry........I'd rather drive a sports car. I don't off road (whoops, 99% of
SUV'ers don't either), we don't get much snow for the 4x4 aspect, I don't
haul kids to ballgames. I like the car I drive because I like it.......simple
enough.
These networking groups will come and go........like so many "in crowd"
bars/nighclubs.......

- Sounds like a con artist's heaven!
These online social networking groups will fail. The reason? Trust.
The need for eye contact, nonverbal communication, etc. to establish trust is too great among our species.
Unless we can have holograms or some such online... (even then, how do you know who you're interacting with isn't an avatar of some kind?) -

- Great point. In today's world, trust is usually established through reputation. Actions do speak louder than words. People have a general guarded philosophy now anyway.
Do you have any reason to believe what I'm saying? No, of course not. But after a while, if we were in a social network, you'd develop an opinion. And for most, that's good enough.

Don’t be surprised if a year from now your everyday conversation is peppered with references to Friendster, Spoke, Ryze, LinkedIn, Tribe.net, ZeroDegrees — or to other sites not yet launched. The phenomenon is new and it’s hot, but it has a very old soul. In fact, the process that drives social networking is found at the heart of all societies and civilizations: the human need to make common cause, to cooperate with others of the species to achieve a whole variety of goals and meet a whole variety of needs — physical, emotional, social, economic, political.
