That's right folks, according to sources close to Microsoft - XPSP2 is due to RTM on the 23rd June. This sets dates back and looks towards an RC2 release. Currently internal testing is at build 2103 (6.00.2900.2103 (xpsp.040330-1748). Working towards a late June RTM would mean beta testers are likely to get another interim or Release Candidate to play with soon.

Previous estimates have (like other SPs) been strictly no RC2 and a release in May to RTW but it seems like this isn't the case. Whatever happens we'll keep you updated, but for now it seems, RC1 is not the last beta we'll be seeing of XPSP2.

Estimates are that we'll see RC2 around the time of WinHec but that it won't be shown at the show.

That's what I would say also

But if if were to be true - and I believe you on that creamhackered - that would really suck! Anyways... still one more extra month to go for a clean install

I hope MS makes it worthwhile letting us wait for soooooo long on SP2!

What do you mean one more month? It's almost 3 full months away.
Quote this comment #3.2 Posted by skinnyjm on 03 Apr 2004 - 02:09
Damn! That's what I say! We have already been waiting over 18 months since SP1 and now even more? That will be over 20 months between service packs. Wayy tooo
long for those of us who have to "rebuild" drives as a part of out jobs.

If they keep on delaying WinXP SP2 like this, they might as well integrate Windows Longhorn into it, because by the time WinXP SP2 is released Windows Longhorn is probably out already.

Cream. You said "No RC2" LOL

If you think of the radical changed in XP SP2. I can see why they need to add an RC2.

I think they're trying to avoid the incompatibilites that came with SP1... and seeing more comprehensive changes are being made then this is quite understandable. Still, it's taking a lot longer than I thought.

RTM of course means Real-Time Manual.

Doesn't it?
Quote this comment #14.1 Posted by neufuse on 01 Apr 2004 - 17:22
release to manufacturer
Quote this comment #14.2 Posted by g33kb0y on 01 Apr 2004 - 17:30
I've seen RTM as read the manual... as well as RTFM for "read the fscking manual." But, like neufuse said...it's "released to manafacturer."

You mean the NX-bit for buffer overflow-protection? Yeah, they've got it since the early build of SP2. You should download the RC1. I'm using it right now. It's much more stable than the leaked builds.

In the RC1 you should find it in an extra tab called Data Execution Prevention. Righ-click My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced -> Settings -> Data Execution Prevention. Then you can just turn it on if it's not already turned on. Too bad I only got an Intel Pentium 4. Like I said before, an Athlon64 will be my next purchase. They simply have too many new features to ignore.

Microsoft can't release crap. Bill Gates is a lousy software manager he was a better CEO.

He just sucks at his new job. Since he took the job everything he over sees slips more and more behind release date.

If Liunx ever beats Windows this will be why.
