Intel's Japan offices have been raided by the country's Fair Trade Commission (FTC) as part of an investigation into whether or not Intel engaged in unfair business practices, El Reg has confirmed. Barbara Grimes, an Intel spokeswoman confirmed that an investigation is underway. Multiple Intel offices in Japan were raided this morning by the FTC, she said. The FTC is indeed looking into alleged anti-monopoly violations. Most notably the FTC appears concerned about Intel's methods in dealing with PC OEMs.

"Intel is suspected of asking personal computer makers to not use other rivals' CPUs," Masaru Matsuo, the FTC's director told CBS MarketWatch. Other reports out of Japan claim the FTC is concerned that Intel threatened to stop processor shipments to certain PC makers if they picked rival chips - presumably those from Advanced Micro Devices.

The old tale of, "You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours." seems to be illegal...interesting.

You don't have anything to worry about as long as you don't violate any laws.

Seems that the Japanese officials are less impressed by these large American
companies than their American counterparts.

In America, if the investigation isn't going your way, add a few million dollars to the
bribe kitty to assure that your bad business practices are overlooked.

In Japan, no such loophole exists and large American businesses are on a level
playing field with smaller, under-capitalized businesses.

How.....unAmerican.

My father used to follow AMD's stock price. He said it was uncanny, AMD would make a big announcement about faster processor and the price would fall and all the analysts would come out talking about how AMD was going to fail. Now we find out that many of the analysts were very crooked.
#4.1 neufuse on 08 Apr 2004 - 15:32
people have been saying AMD would fail ever since AMD copied Intel's first 286 chip and sold it as their own... when your not the lead, they always say you will fail.. an example is apple, how many times have you heard them told they would fail

Never listen to analysts. Do the opposite of what they say. They say the same crap about AAPL and then turn around themselves and buy the stock only to sell it later at a profit.

Tis better business for the good folks at AMD

Man intel has really fallen to such a low level, never expected it from such a large company.
