Prices for 5-megapixel CMOS digital cameras are expected to drop from around US$200 currently to US$150 in the second half of the year as local companies move into mass production, according to sources. The sources indicate that prices for 3-megapixel CMOS sensors are currently around US$10, while 5-megapixel sensors are US$16-18.

Currently, 5-megapixel CCD digital cameras with 3x optical zooms are priced at around US$350-450, over US$200 more than CMOS models of the same resolution. Sales of CMOS-based models are expected to grow by five percentage points in 2004, from the current 30% of the DSC market, according to Simon Yang, an analyst at the Topology Research Institute (TRI).
