German magazine c't reports that a mass of dignitaries will tip up in Dresden on the 17t of May to celebrate the building of Fab 36. The fab is not set to open until 2005, however, and chips will roll off the production lines early in 2006, if all the plans go right. The dignitaries who will crack open the champers include German chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, Saxon prime minister Georg Milbradt and AMD prime minister Hector Ruiz, the magazine says. The 12-inch fab, said c't, will cost 2.4 billion, but AMD has borrowed half a billion Euros or so to build it.
