McDonald's breaks IT barriers with McAsian web site

Is it possible that McDonald's - a brick-and-mortar burger seller - has outclassed its corporate peers in the IT sector with the most profound use of the Internet yet? Yes.

When we first stumbled upon McDonald's I-AM-ASIAN web site, we thought it was a slightly racist, bizarre locale, promoting the central role hamburgers play in Asian culture. And how could you think anything else given the catchy text displayed on the site? Things like, "Whether we're sipping green tea or enjoying a Big MacŪ sandwich, we're helping make the magic mix called America become even richer. And McDonald's is right there with us, everyday!"

AM-ASIAN site is so much more than a shallow attempt to target part of a company's customer base. It's actually the culmination of a well-organized marketing plan - one that proves IT does matter. And, if you're an intellectual property fan, you'll get a kick out of McDonald's attempt to trademark the phrase "I am Asian." Looking through the site source code, you'll find that a company called IW Group designed the Asian-themed pages. The IW Group specializes in creating marketing campaigns that reach "the growing Asian communities in the United States." We assume they mean "growing" in population count and not in physical size as the I-AM-Asian ads show. IW Group has a rich list of clients, including AT&T Wireless, Bank of America, California Department of Consumer Affairs, Los Angeles Times, Nike and the United States Postal Service.

lol I like how in the beginning they said:
"we thought it was a slightly racist"
but then in the article:
"that reach "the growing Asian communities in the United States." We assume they mean "growing" in population count and not in physical size as the I-AM-Asian ads show."
that sounds like a racist assumption to me. I thought that was kinda hypocritical?

QUOTE
We're Asian and Pacific Islander Americans "living on the rim," where our diverse cultures and the everyday American lifestyle become one. We're hanging on to our great traditions while we move to the beat of the times. We honor our heritage - but we love being Americans. From high fashion to high tech, from Asian Pacific American hip hop to haute cuisine, we're weaving the threads of our culture into the fabric of everyday American life. Whether we're sipping green tea or enjoying a Big MacŪ sandwich, we're helping make the magic mix called America become even richer. And McDonald's is right there with us, everyday!
That is the funniest frigging piece of marketing bollocks I have ever seen.

Nice. This goes right along their race-targeted marketing with the "I'm lovin' it" ads.

I never liked McDonalds. it is not a fast food store! It is a slow and rude food store! Those black people that work there could just give you crap and they wouldn't care about it! For example, the one at the following address

2101 BONI STEEL BLVD
ANN ARBOR, MI 48109

They once didn't give people ketchup for 2 straight weeks! What's wrose, they restrict people with McChicken with only one package of sauce. I of course wasn't happy, and I have been boycotting that one ever since then. If you send feedback to that store owner, they WILL NOT respond! So "I am Hating it!" not loving it!

Now fast forward to another McDonalds at this following address

2675 PLYMOUTH
ANN ARBOR, MI 48105-2470

Well, their service is a lot better, but how should I describe it? I went in and ordered a medium fries. and another person ordered a full meal behind me. Guess what got the food first? The person with full meal order! I had to ask them to give me my freaking fries, and they were like "oops forgot your order" .. what a buncha morons. I can't stand that slow food chain!

Talking about racists, I am still quite offended by their marketing skills. Very very unporfessional.

Their blatant attempt to capture the black market is humorous. What's with all this hip-hop crap in the commercials? It's enough to make me sick. What's really disgusting is the multi-cultural drinking cups. We had hippies shove this crap down our throats all through school, but guess what- It's no longer trendy! McD's is about five years too LATE! Multiculturism and black are out. GAY is in! Gay is the new black! I doubt you'd catch the boys from Queer Eye in McDonald's, though. Let the minorities be, for God's sake. I expect the Asians will stay intelligent enough to not rush to McDonald's just because of the incredibly catchy, "I AM ASIAN" slogan. I wonder what genius from Madison Avenue got a new Rolex for dreaming up that one...

Something else to note: i-am-black.com and i-am-white.com are taken... However: i-am-white-trash.com is available. I'm surprised Wal*Mart didn't jump on this one right away!
