Apple Computer Inc. on Tuesday announced that
Founder, a major supplier of personal computers to the Chinese market, will pre-install the Windows version of Apple's iTunes software on all of its PCs beginning next month. With iTunes installed, users of Founder PCs will be able to copy music from their own audio CDs, create playlists, share the music of Local Area Networks (LANs) using Rendezvous, and listen to that music on the iPod, Apple's popular digital music player.

This is the first such partnership Apple has announced with a PC maker since a deal with Hewlett-Packard was unveiled in January. Apple and HP's deal included the installation of iTunes on certain HP consumer PCs, as well as the manufacture of an HP-branded iPod that will go on sale later this year. Apple's announcement with Founder includes iTunes only, not the iPod.

yay.. we can sue iTune for being monopoly then.
#1.1 dp123 on 18 May 2004 - 18:53
Don't know where to begin on this one...

A product cannot be a monopoly for one...

Apple gaining access to Windows desktop and OEM installation, a monopoly we know they illegally controlled for many years, is a desirable thing secondly...

And thirdly, what about Apple signing a deal with a third party OEM is monopolistic... It sounds pro-competitive, pro-cooperation, etc... to me...

Anyway. Pathetic flame.

Yeah yeah yeah whatever, like I care what you say. Next time when I see you make comments against Microsoft, I can say the same to you as well. Pro-competitions and all that crap. Just cuz Apple is not as big as MS doesn't mean they have all the rights to expand.
#1.3 dp123 on 18 May 2004 - 23:12
Um, no, that's pure nonsense. If MS does something that seems (according to the law) inappropriate, I will say so. By no logic whatsoever, can it be said that this action is monopolistic however... making it simply a retarded, foolish comment.

Disregard me if you wish, but since I applied logic to the situation and you have provided no information or argument at all to back up your statements, it appears that you agree with me: your comment is simply flamebait and flamebait alone.

Thanks.

Bait which you took rather admirably. Congratulations.

I'm more than happy to respond to whatever bait posted if it seems I can put down some facts and logic and put an end to some rather insane idiocy.

This is precisely why I build my own machines and install only what I need.
#2.1 iCeFuSiOn on 18 May 2004 - 19:22
Exactly; when I build a PC for someone I have them fill out a small for as to what they want and don't want on the machine
#3 Mav Phoenix on 18 May 2004 - 18:28
Not really a big deal considering what other crap gets installed on those kind of computers.

So are they replacing Windows Media Player with this?
#4.1 Test Zero on 18 May 2004 - 19:08
I doubt it.

I doubt it.

Hey.. it is Chinese makers that we are taking about. With their government command, they can get rid of Windows Media Player if they choose to.

Nah, MS calls WMP when they want to play any sound.

Why? iTunes is so overrated. I just don't understand this decision.
#5.1 tapo on 19 May 2004 - 03:14
Because not everybody thinks it's overrated?

Seriously, there's three options.

1. Windows Media Player 9, which is the most bloated, unstable program I've ever used. And I loathe it's interface.

2. Winamp. Which is a nice player, but not good for big collections.

3. iTunes. Which burns and rips CD's, has a nice and easy interface, has a music store, and a portable MP3 player.

It just makes sense to bundle it, if they don't like the program, the don't need to use it! And unlike, say, bundled Microsoft applications, it can be easily and completely removed from the system.

iTunes is great, I settled on it to have a hastle free life when accessing my music collection on both my PC and my Mac

lol
Well i wonder if iTunes will screw these computers up hiding drives and randomising icons?? If its pre-installed they'd better leave it uninstallable.
Definatly not the best music software available out there.
Jus my tupence!

iTunes is very stable and a good music program. The beta version was a bit flaky though, which I assume is what you used.
