- As usual with alienware, it looks really cool and really expensive. I suppose if I could afford one, I'd have to buy it.
I mean, watercooled with support? Sounds good to me. -

- you could custom build a machine that works just as good for a much lower price tag...

- I guess it would be better if every one of them was translucent white and looked like a thrift-store retro lamp?

- Free of charge...not really...more like disguised in the price, Alienware is very expensive.

QUOTE (#2.0) Alienware is very expensive.
Expensive *and* overpriced yes... But it all looks awesome and is really good stuff. *sigh* if only I could afford one.

- These guys seem to have been hitting the news quite a lot recently. For the big gamer who isn't necessarily clued up on which processor/mb/ram combination is best for their needs can be sure they will get a top class system with support by buying AA. People must have lots of money though to buy at their prices...

- there is not a single thing this company sells that is worth what they charge... or even close to what they charge. Any joe schmoe could do what they are doing at 1/2 the price and still make a killing!!
What a waste -

- Some people rather not spend time building a PC so be quiet. These are excellent computers and people can spend their money as they please, beeotch.

Now I'm jsut waiting for them to give me one for free. -
#4.2 Posted by nanackle on 04 Jun 2004 - 04:17
- You have got to be kidding me... "these are excellent computers"... you must own one. Again... its sad.

- Not like it takes that long to build a computer, what 15 minutes?
-
#5 Posted by jeavis on 04 Jun 2004 - 01:38
- I'm guessing the price will be in the $6000 range

- Hmmm, I don't know about you, but I've compared many of their systems to what I can build one for ordering parts of places like Newegg....I don't really feel like paying 1, 000 dollars or more over what I could make a computer for just to recive some tech support (I'm already A+ certified myself) and a spiffy case. I can find a better looking case for under 80$ myself anyways. Anyone who wants to spend 1k+ on a fugly case, be my guest, but I prefer not to.

- IMO the only thing which gets everyone so horny over Alienware is a stupid case. I mean wat good is a case when the stuff inside is sh*t and overpriced?
Ironicly Alienware aim at the 'hardcore PC/Gaming enthusiasts', funny that if you are a true know-all about computers you wouldn't even consider buying these systems.

- I like their cases but if I had that kind of money I'd go for a Falcon instead.

#16 Posted by goatsniffer on 04 Jun 2004 - 07:23
- I bought an Alienware back in March. Area 51 Saucer Silver @ 3GHZ.
Nice machine, would get another, but I wish they would have advertised for the ALX ALOT SOONER!!! I prolly would have got one of them...
Well I could always sell this alienware for a few hundred less than i got it for, say 2,300, but I would wait until the ALX goes all dual.
They shouldnt even be selling the ALX until they include dual vid and cpu.

- Yeah have you seen the price... I could buy a small car for that price...
-
#18 Posted by sclam on 04 Jun 2004 - 09:54
- Hah, they charge $50 for the "heavy duty" power cable. And $91 for a Plextor CDRW. This is seriously pushing it on pricing
-
#19 Posted by .:: lebmike ::. on 04 Jun 2004 - 12:03
- $4689!!!!!!!! Obsolete in 1 1/2 years, guaranteed
-
#20 Posted by stockwiz on 04 Jun 2004 - 16:59
- There must be a market for this, otherwise they wouldn't be charging this much. That pricing is absolutely insane.
-
#21 Posted by bilemke on 04 Jun 2004 - 21:27
- I would rather know i have the skill to make my own personal machine, not a cookie cutter from any manufacturer(be it dell or something like alienware).

ALX – Overclocked Systems with Support
ALX systems are engineered and precisely-crafted to deliver ultimate performance using overclocked and tuned-up hardware. Performance-enhanced hardware includes the option to have CPU, memory, and video card settings overclocked by Alienware to the highest levels while maintaining system stability. In order to maximize stability and reliability of ALX desktops, Alienware said it would use specially-designed liquid cooling system. Alienware’s liquid cooling technology features a next-generation thermal management solution, using a specially-mixed coolant and gold-plated, pure copper coolers to keep the heat generated by system components in check.
In addition to performance, Alienware also offers special consulting services for ALX owners. ALX customers will receive one-on-one attention from Alienware’s team of dedicated PC enthusiasts, who will help them with everything from deciding what components will perform best to recommending what settings their software should run on. ALX owners will also receive the option of speaking directly with their system’s assembler and having up to three of their favorite games installed, updated, and optimized on their system, free of charge.
