So here we are boys and girls, the latest forceware drivers to sneak out of Nvidias build labs. The files are dated 06/16/2004 and will work with all ranges of Nvidia cards. We haven't had time to test these fully and bare in mind they are not WHQL so please be careful about using them on production systems. Enjoy.

#4.1 Varsity on 04 Jul 2004 - 12:46
Going to be doing that soon, too. It's good to get a look at both sides of the market.

Welcome to a couple of years ago... I've had my 9800 Pro a year now and not a single problem with it. Never had any problem with my previous GeForce 4 TI before either

you sir are arsewipe

how can you even compare fx5200 to 9800

think for a second
#4.6 syphern on 04 Jul 2004 - 17:59
Buddy try reading my post a little more clearly! I wasnt comparing them AT ALL!
#4.7 sullysnet on 04 Jul 2004 - 19:38
LOL LOL
#4.8 DjmUK on 04 Jul 2004 - 20:57
Yep, 9800 Pro kicks FX5200 my miles.

Which is why I'm gonna' move from "Nvidia GeForce 2 Pro" to "ATi Radeon X800 Pro or XT".

Anyways, I've never used beta drivers and I never will.

P.S.
Why is this title "Exclusive"..? are these drivers special, because we get beta ForceWare drivers on this forum every couple of weeks (same with Catalyst).

Thank You for making a fool out of yourself.
#4.10 Fanon on 05 Jul 2004 - 01:03
It wasn't nVidia that killed you in DX9 games, it was your choice of video card. 5200FX? Didn't you check benchmarks before you bought it? The only FX cards worth owning are NV38 and up.
#4.11 NinjaOfLove on 05 Jul 2004 - 02:56
As someone who's gone from Nvidia to ATI, I consider that comment to be hardly foolish. ATI's drivers are a serious pain in the arse. Crummy OpenGL performance, and many annoying bugs drive me up the wall.
#4.12 mrk on 05 Jul 2004 - 04:38
ati owners will FEEL the ownage as doom 3 comes out, they already are feeling BETA OWNAGE in hl2 :p

Welcome to a couple of years ago...

Actually, welcome to right now.

I had a Radeon 9700 Pro. I had more problems with that card than any other piece of computer equipment I've ever owned. It was great, well, it was fast, when it wanted to be. But experiencing what was then fast gameplay for 4-5 minutes before the driver crashed was not exactly enjoyable.

It also sucked more power and produced more heat than any card I've ever owned... and I have 5900U now.

My poor friend who bought the card from me can't wait to switch back to nvidia when he can get a 6800 card. He's had countless problems as well and is very frustrated that they STILL haven't fixed BF1942.

can i use these drivers on geforce 4mx440 cards ?????
#5.1 creamhackered on 04 Jul 2004 - 12:44
Yes, of course
#5.2 Varsity on 04 Jul 2004 - 12:53
You're probably better with the 4x.xx or 52.xx branches though, as these are optimised for the 6800 cards.
#5.3 j005u on 04 Jul 2004 - 17:23
defenently use 4x.xx'es. much better.

#9 JK1150 on 04 Jul 2004 - 15:12
just wondering, I have a GeForce 4 440 Go, will the forceware drivers work for me?
(2 replies) #10 lmetza on 04 Jul 2004 - 16:43
I think im going to stick with teh 61.36 whql's they seem to be pretty damn fast on my 5900XT, plus im useing dx9.0c and that makes farcru run about 5-10 frames smoother overall, the water shaders look slightly better aswell, i would liek to test these out but i think the 61.36 r better still.
#10.1 obscure_ on 04 Jul 2004 - 17:53
Was 61.36 WHQL certified? If so does anyone know where I can get it?
#10.2 Flash on 04 Jul 2004 - 17:58
guru3d
#11 Jdawg683 on 04 Jul 2004 - 17:54
still not as fast as the 60.85s for me... none of the 61 series has been... i dont know about real world gaming though...
#12 ForeverUnknown on 04 Jul 2004 - 19:15
i'm trying them now. lets see how it goes

this driver sucks. i'm freezing in far cry. "The nv4_disp driver has stopped working normally"

mmm new drivers for 6800 GT ..w00t
#17 invaderzim_2004 on 04 Jul 2004 - 23:23
I would download newer Forceware drivers, but would hold-off until a official WHQL logoed release.
(1 reply) #18 moeburn on 04 Jul 2004 - 23:38
the reason nvidia won't release any of these drivers to the public is because Microsoft won't get off their lazy asses and release DX9.c to us
#18.1 Darkness2k on 05 Jul 2004 - 10:35
It's not hard to find DirectX 9.0c if you want it now... Google (currently release candidate Zero)
Depends if you want a beta version of it or not. I've not had any problems with it however.
You could install install XP SP2 RC2, as that has it built in I believe.
#19 diamonds on 05 Jul 2004 - 01:25
you know, honestly, these drivers are leaked, but they throw such a damn fit over that royal visual style for windows XP wtf is the difference? they are both leaked. Guess they are just more scared of microsoft.

I've decided not to evaluate these drivers, or any others that do not come directly from NVIDIA's official releases

Turns out point sprites are an important feature needed in the Silent Hill game engines, and I have never seen a beta driver succesfully complete the point sprites test.
#20.1 Dessimat0r on 05 Jul 2004 - 02:27
Eh? When I had a nVidia card and beta drivers, it never failed this test.
(1 reply) #21 Overlord368 on 05 Jul 2004 - 04:32
I still dont get why this is exclusive... arnt builds leaked all the time?
#21.1 mrk on 05 Jul 2004 - 04:39
yes they are, this is a false exclusive since station drivers and many other places had them anyway
(1 reply) #22 flii on 05 Jul 2004 - 04:59
[off topic]

would story writers please bear in mind that "bare in mind" should be "bear in mind"? or "bear with us"? every time i see a writer for neowin saying "bare" instead of "bear", i crack up. sorry guys, but nobody's stripping here.
#22.1 IntelliMoo on 06 Jul 2004 - 11:19
Or are we......
#23 xxpor on 05 Jul 2004 - 14:27
Lol I guess these arent optomized for my RIVA TNT2 pro,
#24 Locust85 on 05 Jul 2004 - 14:27
Well, for one, I'm not sure why this release doesn't have an installer, but anyway...

I did everything I was supposed to, only to have it automatically install an old 52.16 version (from Windows folders?) instead of the new 61.80. I checked the readme to discover that my GeForce FX 5200 is nowhere to be found in the supported adapters list! WTF?!

I went back to 61.71 and that works fine as always...
#25 Shining Arcanine on 05 Jul 2004 - 15:16
I wonder if Neowin is going to be slashdotted over this.
#26 Naveen on 05 Jul 2004 - 15:44
just for the record, fx 5700 non-ultra 128mb = aw3some
msi dot=works and works well

dot cp extensions remained available after my installation of nvidia 61.72 drivers.

and, since it's only 0.8 higher then the driver im using now, i am not going to try these. Unless someone tells me they'll give me ut2004 fps>=fps_current*1.3. And i believe them.

<hint>
(1 reply) #27 Oblivion on 07 Jul 2004 - 07:07
Where's the setup in this package or do i manually need to update the drivers?
#27.1 axis on 09 Jul 2004 - 20:04
I hope you would always use the manual method to update your drivers.
