Apple surprised everyone today after confirming that they are developing a G5 iMac. This new iMac will feature a new enclosure and of course a sexy G5 processor. Good news is you don't have to wait long; Apple is expected to start shipping the new iMac this September.
Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer opened today's conference call with analysts with a recap of the points of Apple's Wednesday quarterly results press release: The company reported a US$61 million profit or $0.16 per diluted share for the quarter, compared to $19 million profit or $0.05 per diluted share for the same quarter a year ago. Revenue for the quarter was $2.014 billion, up 30 percent from the same quarter a year ago. Oppenheimer also confirmed that Apple's next-generation iMac, due in September, will be based around the G5 processor.
Oppenheimer also let it be known that the new iMac coming this September will be based on a G5 processor. The delay in the new model's release is supply problem involving the G5 processor itself -- it's manufactured by IBM in its East Fishkill, NY. Oppenheimer said that IBM's supply issues are the industry's supply issues -- the switch to 90 nanometer scale production has not been as smooth as anyone in the business expected. He did say that IBM has made progress in working out those issues, however. Turning to Apple's retail store results, Oppenheimer indicated that Apple saw $3.2 million in average quarterly revenue per store. That's up from $2.6 million per store year-over-year. The company estimates that 5.8 million people visited stores during the quarter.

there are always gonna be people that dont like the design for some reason, but everyone has to admit that the design was a sign of "artistic genius".

Oh baby!!
Now I wanna go play Leisure Suit Larry!
However I found it more interesting that the CFO of Apple shares the same name with the man that invented the H-Bomb - Oppenheimer
Bleh. I need some sleep.

actually Oppenheimer was opposed to the H-bomb, however he did create the atom bomb. They are different bombs.
ps.. i dont hate mac i use em for video editing heh just dont own one at home
They have jobs, perhaps?
tapo, he was talking about the possible price for the new ones, not the current ones.
on subject, this would be very good for someone that wants a regular because maybe (just maybe) the prices on the other models will decrease. it never hurts to be good with 2 or more platforms (am i right?).

And it doesn't make sense for an iMac to cost the same as a PowerMac.

that makes sense as well. i guess we'll have to see what they end up doing.

I hate that analogy. More expensive just simply doesn't equate to better. It might make some people think that way, so they can justify their expendature, but it's simply not true. Especially when you consider that with few exceptions, such as the case and the processor, the components of a Mac are the same as most off-the-shelf PCs. If you want to pay an extra few grand for a name and a little icon, more power to you.
im a microsoft fanboy who is "praising" the design of apple's current iMac. what are you?

I just think that it's an ugly design. I'd rather have my nice computer case.
You were speaking for "everyone", which would include both Dayon, as well as myself. Didn't realize you were established as the spokesperson for humanity.
I personally agree with Dayon. If I want artistic, I'll buy *art*. I do not think my life would ever reach such a low that the "artistic" focal point of my home or workplace would be how gosh-darn neato my computer looks. Not everything that is curvy and translucent is "artistic", nor is being abnormal. A platypus looks like nothing else on this planet, but I wouldn't call it "artistic genius".
