The silver-dollar size Virgin Electronics Wearable 128MB MP3 Player weighs just half an ounce and is ideal for people who love to enjoy music on the go. The Wearable 128MB MP3 Player delivers one of the best MP3 player values on the market today at just $99.99. Virgin Electronics announced its new corporate strategy in a separate release today.

"The Virgin brand stands for value, quality, innovation and fun. The Wearable MP3 Player is exactly the type of product that you'd expect from a brand like Virgin," said Joe Sipher, senior vice president of marketing for Virgin Electronics. "When we called it the Wearable 128MB MP3 player, we meant wearable. The product is so small and light it can be worn comfortably around the neck, arm -- anywhere. No pockets required."

The Wearable 128MB MP3 Player holds roughly 40 songs and includes one of the simplest interfaces ever devised. The Wearable MP3 Player doesn't need complicated software or even a power adaptor. Consumers just plug the player into their PC or Mac USB port to load songs and charge the device, all at the same time with the same cable. Two simple buttons turn the player on and off, skip songs and control volume. The Wearable MP3 player comes with an armband and specially designed earbuds intended to be worn around the neck. Consumers can also attach any standard headphones to the player.

Updates

According to the article at MSNBC, the new iPod will also contain the following features:

  • Longer battery life (50%) through more efficient method of power conservation.
  • Increased averaged play time, now at 12 hours.
  • Multiple On-The-Go playlist support
  • Ability to delete songs off the playlist
  • Users will now be given a choice to play their tunes at 25% slower or faster.
  • Lower price: $399 for 40GB, and $299 for 20GB. The 15 GB model has been discontinued.

Personally, I am hoping that some of these new features will be made available to existing users through firmware updates. I guess we will just have wait and see...

You can find 128MB USB key mp3 player for less than $40 (with same weight)
Ok you can't put it on a waistline like that one, but how many people will really attach it like this ?

I want more detailed pics. and I would buy one that held at least 700MB- Fairly premium by todays standards I know, but only one that amount could substitute CDs

How is that "one of the best MP3 player values on the market today"?

Virgin Electronics Wearable 128MB MP3 Player...
    128MB @ $100 = $0.78/MB

    Apple 40GB iPod...
    40000MB @ $399 = $0.01/MB

That doesn't sound like such a great deal to me.

You think maybe this might be for someone that doesn't want to spend $400 on a mp3 player, or maybe doesn't feel the need to carry around 40 gigs of music? Could that be possible?

Thats almost as narrow minded as saying "The value of a human is proportional to the amount money they own, and nothing else".

This isn't much of a news story, it's just one company buying an already existing player and rebranding it.

    #11.1 divertom15 on 20 Jul 2004 - 01:40
same thing others like dell have done actually
    #11.2 Zeni on 20 Jul 2004 - 21:19
Indeed, but this doesn't even warrant a news post, Dell uses rebranded Zen Xtras, but has their own casing, this is just slapping a logo on a player that has been around for over a year.

    sounds interesting...
    #14 icie on 20 Jul 2004 - 15:05
But is this news? I've seen this size and shape mp3 player on the market a few months ago (and then it mysteriously vanished after a while). And this is in Australia.
