- Give me my SP2!
-
#3.1 Posted by tereshchenko on 27 Jul 2004 - 10:49
- The bad thing in SP2 is that it still has .NET framework 1.0 and not the latest and best 1.1
-
#3.2 Posted by Jason on 27 Jul 2004 - 11:12
- You need 1 and 1.1 on your system as they are not compatible with each other.
-
#3.3 Posted by Jugalator on 27 Jul 2004 - 11:32
- Yes, it should really have both included, but it's probably large enough already.
-
#3.4 Posted by tereshchenko on 27 Jul 2004 - 11:33
- They are compatible. 1.1 runs all 1.0 applications without any problems (and it is official).
-
#3.5 Posted by Jason on 27 Jul 2004 - 11:38
- Can you show me the Microsoft documentation that says you only need 1.1 and not 1 as well, I am sure I read you need both.

- I develop only in .NET 1.1 and do not have 1.0 installed on any of my systems at work. I can still run 1.0 apps with out installing the 1.0 framework on my systems perfectly fine (the systems only have .net 1.1 on them and some have .net 2.0 beta) I've never installed both frameworks at once, except when we migrated from VS.NET 2002 to 2003 (1.0 to 1.1) but the current systems only have 1.1 and never had 1.0 on them and no problems reported here running old 1.0 apps

QUOTE (#3.1) The bad thing in SP2 is that it still has .NET framework 1.0 and not the latest and best 1.1
That is because .NET 1.1 SP1 isn't finished yet and wont be for a while, they dont want to packadge a version that isn't complete yet, or a version that is about to have some major fixes to it, so they bundle the 1.0 version because its been tested and works good so far. 1.1 still has some bugs in it even though it's been RTM for years now, SP1 of 1.1 should fix a lot of them-

- It's because MCE/Tablet NEED 1.0 and don't work if 1.1 is installed.

- Well done to Microsoft.

- 1.1 supports 99,99% of 1.0 applications. DIXI.

- Will it be English-only for a time or will localized versions be available at the same time, I wonder. Previous service packs have been delayed by several months before localized versions were available. With MS recent focus on security, I hope it means they'll release all fixes for all languages at the same time.

- Does anyone know if they've fixed ... or are going to fix ... the wireless bugs?! I was trying to connect to another wireless network with WEP the other day, and it wouldn't work, and it's hard as heck to get the thing to stop automatically connecting and let me actually configure it.

- I doubt seriously that the RTM build will have any significant improvements over 2162. Those of you that can't wait ought to just install that:
Download Network Install of Build 2162 from Microsoft (266MB).

- Well, they're at 2179 now (at least), just in the last day.

According to sources close to Microsoft, late last friday builds stood at 2173 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040723-1834). Currently builds are likely to be at 2175. We're expecting the final RTM to sign off at 2180 to RTM in the first week of August. RTW (release to web) will follow RTM by around 10 days. So everyone should be able to get their hands on SP2 final in the second week of August.
Having RTM in the build strings since build 2170 is nothing new. Windows Server 2003 had RTM in the build strings for nearly a month before it was declared final. Even still we're still expecting SP2 final on August 4th providing there are no delays (yet again).
Thanks to Shawn for the 2173 screenshot.
The DirectX team would like to thank each of you for your hard work and feedback during this beta program. Your efforts are greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
