A Taiwan-based site is offering to sell the DVD copying software once sold by defunct 321 Studios Inc., which was driven out of business last week. DVDXCopy2.com appears to have mirrored some of the content once found on the 321 Studios Web site, including images and endorsements from various computer magazines and review sites. Web browsers accessing the site's "secure server" did not detect the use of any form of encryption, however, possibly implying that the site is not legitimate.

The site is registered to an "admin" e-mail address at DVDXcopy.com, one of the URLs used to sell the 321 Studios DVD-ripping software. A lookup of the registration information reveals that the site's tech contact is Doff Wu, also listed in conjunction with a Taipei address. Wu could not be contacted at press time for comment.

Speaking of DVD X Copy -- Anyone tried to "activate" their copy of DVD X Copy since the company went belly-up? I need to reinstall my PC (rebuilding with slipstream XPSP2) and I will want my DVD X Copy back. If anyone else has had problems with this I might not rebuild my PC after all. Gotta have copies of my daughter's DVDs since she and my wife scratch them to oblivion on a monthly basis

Have you tried DVD Decrypter? I don't know if it's 'the same thing' tho, I've never tried DVD X Copy, but it might be a good substitute...

I'm not sure if it will help much, but on the main page of the old site, http://www.dvdxcopy.com/ there are phone numbers to ring for activation of the software.

There are better tools then DVD X Copy now. =)

But are any of them as easy as DVD X Copy? My wife can use DVD X Copy to burn copies of my daughter's DVDs. Could she have the same luck with any of the competitors? Your thoughts are appreciated. I'm open to switching if any of the alternatives are user friendly (i.e. I don't need to know what a VOB is, etc.)

Its like 3 clicks on DVD Shrink to backup a DVD. If you have Nero installed (and who here does not?) it will start the burn process, I think. DVD Shrink is also FREE.

The site don't work for me, down already?
And it all seems kinda odd, but makes sense at the same time. You get a large legal bill for your rather successful software, so you file for bankruptcy and sod off to a different country outside the courts power and set up again.

DVD Shrink gets my vote, too, because it does not put that ugly warning at the front of your DVDs like DVDXCopy does.
