As it makes moves towards a single Windows platform for 64-bit computing, Microsoft Corp. on Wednesday offered to customers in its preview program new 64-bit desktop software builds as well as a fresher Windows Server 2003 Enterprise x64 Edition. In addition, the Redmond, Wash. company said it had changed the name of its Windows XP 64-bit for Extended 64-bit Systems to Windows XP Professional x64 Edition.
This prerelease software, which support both Intel- and AMD x64-compatible platforms, is available for evaluation through the Customer Preview Program for the XP Professional x64 Edition and for the Server 2003 Edition.
Windows XP Professional x64 Edition is expected to ship in the first half of 2005 as it is part of the Windows Server 2003 SP1 ship schedule and will be released at the same time as that product. Microsoft said in July that it was pushing back these releases from the end of this year as a result of delays with Windows XP SP2.

This leaves Nintendo, once again, with a lot of titles that are bound to gather critical acclaim - and almost certainly deservedly so - but with the exception of Metroid Prime 2 not that many that are likely to scythe through the competition during a hectic Christmas rush.
Any GBA owners bound to an elderly relative's couch this Christmas won't have too much to worry about, however, with a number of exciting titles due on the handheld - despite the impending launch of the Nintendo DS, which is due out in Europe in early 2005. In fact, it'll be interesting to see how GBA sales fare in the run-up to Christmas purely on that basis.
We'll be in the queue though, busily scrabbling to get hold of Mario Golf Advance Tour (Sept 17th), the eagerly awaited The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap (Nov 12th), Mario vs. Donkey Kong (Nov 19th), and - for the sake of working out what it is more than anything - "Super Mario Ball" (Nov 26th). Square die-hards will be pleased to see Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls down for early December, too.
Key exclusives due out on Nintendo platforms in the run up to Christmas:
GameCube
Wario Ware, Inc.: Mega Party Game$ - September 3rd
Animal Crossing - September 3rd
Pikmin 2 - October 8th
Donkey Konga - October 15th
Paper Mario 2: The Thousand Year Door - November 12th
Tales of Symphonia - November 19th
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes - November 26th
Game Boy Advance
Mario Golf Advance Tour - September 17th
Pokemon Leaf Green/Fire Red - October 1st
The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap - November 12th
Mario vs. Donkey Kong - November 19th
Super Mario Ball - November 26th
Mario Party Advance - December 3rd
Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls - December 10th

Buying a router instead is a great solution - Thanks. I hadnt thought of that!!!
Besides, why the hell should I spend another £40-50 on a router?? Alcatel should support 64bit as its a new technology being taken up SERIOUSLY. You may have lots of cash to throw about on new equipment, but I dont
Geee.... a company that doesn't support a beta OS not due out till next year! Call the police! Please, even after an OS is released it usually takes a few weeks-months before drivers are released for it.
I'm not being funny, but I don't see why they should support a beta OS than only a few people are going to use; it would be nice, but ATI doesn't even support 64bit Linux, and they are one of the big manufacturers.

THE POINT AGAIN was the fact Alcatel denied there even being 64 bit despite me telling them and pointing them to AMD and Microsoft websites. Im not expecting drivers for a Beta release, im just expecting drivers, but with an attitude of "What 64 bit?" I'm not expecting them!
To reiterate once again:
When a company releases a beta product, officially it still does not exist. Thus, Alcatel's denial that it exists is perfectly valid.
Patience, young grasshoppah!
Cable > Modem > Router
Are you saying I can just get rid of the modem and have?
Cable > Router
If so, then way-hey!
I do have an Ethernet Modem connected to the WAN port on my router.
Thanks for the heads up here

Anyone have any idea if they now support the ATI 9800XT with drivers? The previous version did not; and ATI will not release beta x64 drivers.
Also, how about driver support for Linksys Wireless adapters?
I'm on the CPP but can't really run it the way I want due to the fact there is no support for the ATI video card I've got and the wireless NIC I've got in my desktop.
Danke Schoen
Thanks for the tip!
nVidia have much better support... they released drivers for Windows 64bit a LONG time before ATi and actually HAVE [and update their] 64bit Linux drivers (with 3D acceleration).
As much as ATi have improved, there's still a long way to go before I respect them as a company - they got lucky with the 9xxx series (I'm using a 9800SE AIW here - it's great for the price) but they actually need to put some effort in if they want to be taken seriously; they are talking about possibly releasing a beta driver for AMD64 by the end of this year... emphasis on the word "possibly".
ATi are concentrating on WinXP-64, the most likely reason is that they think it will be more popular than Linux-64. When they're ready they'll release Linux-64.
LOL
