Gameplay, which was owned and operated by Andy Mee and Lisa Burke, who will continue to helm the company following the acquisition, has had a chequered history.
The firm went through a period of massive expansion during the dot.com boom, fuelled by a major stock market flotation. That expansion saw the firm buying up BT's Wireplay online gaming service and launching its own TV show on Sky One, as well as planning to launch itself as a game publisher.

However, the technology crash hit Gameplay.com (as then was) hard, and eventually the profitable boxed games business was bought out by its management as the remainder of the company collapsed.

Hehe, just about to say that. I downloaded it only to find that it said "This update requires Windows 2000!"

err...did we read the same info on MS Website ???

I read :
"Affected Software:
• Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 1 – Download the update"

I got XP SP2 which falls in the "Non-Affected Software" category.

Edit:
Hmm, Odd, the link mentionned above for XP and XP SP1 seems dead, it says:
"The download you requested is unavailable. If you continue to see this message when trying to access this download, you might try the "Search for a Download" area on the Download Center home page."

well well well
the link I was refering to points to a hole in XP described in the same MS security bulletin, its reference is KB833987 whereas the hole in IE6 SP1 is KB833989

the link to that KB833987 is no longer dead for the fix needed for XP + SP1

anyway, something to be aware of for those on XP who are reluctant to apply SP2

The topic is a bit misleading, this is for more than just IE. It is for a whole boatload of MS apps. Almost everyone will have one or more affected applications installed.

Hopefully someone can shed some light on this....

I am running XP, and received an automatic update saying I needed to install this critical update. So, like an idiot, I installed it without checking it's validity.

So it appears that it installed correctly, because I no longer get the auto update message. But now I am being plagued by popups. This same chain of events happened to a coworker, and he also is getting popups running win XP.

The strange thing is that I am reading that it should not have installed on XP, which leads me to believe that it was some spyware program masquerading as an automatic update from microsoft.

Thoughts???? Help!!!???
